Hey guys, I am going to be building a custom enclosure for my 12" infinity sub in the area where the spare is supposed to go. I am having some difficulty as to where to mount the amp for it. I know the enclose isnt going to take up all of the area in that hole. I was kinda wanting to mount it on the outside of the box in the hole there. Then, i though about maybe it wont get enough air flow because im going to have a cover over the hole and cut out a space for the sub to show through. So, do you think I could mount it inside there? or would it get too hot? where else could I put it so its sort of out of the way? Its a Sony Class D 1600watt .. looks like a pentagon.

why don't you just mount it to the back of your rear seat and run the wires down to the enclosure? That (or somewhere on the walls of the trunk) seem to be the best area for mounting an amplifier, because it stays out of the way.

if you build your enclosure right, it should be air tight. If you put your amp inside the box it will not have any air & get too hot. you could do something like this...(the pic isn't mine, it's DSMtuners.com member geekyguru

or you could mount the amp on your hatch cover... just a couple of ideas... i can't give the goods since i'll be making my custom enclosure in my 2g for my 12" eclipse sub. :thumb:

well, its not going to be inside the box.. its going to be in the spare tire hole next to the box. The box wont take up the whole area where the spare tire goes. But, there will be a cover going over that hole with a cut out and grill for the 12 so.. i dunno if that amp would get enough ventilation or not. I am just trying to mount my audio where people wont see it well. The hatch and spoiler cover up the rear area well enough so that people wont be able to see the sub. from the outside that is.
