am i getin scammed

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

Dude don't do it!!!! my GF sent a phone to nigeria and she was offered 300 for it so she thought it was a great deal, once she had sent the phone she checked the status next day and it said that the payment had been retracted and that it was a scam. We tried going to USPS to try and stop the package before it reached its destination but since it hald already left the US they said that there was nothing they can do about it. Your better off selling it locally even if you get offer less than that. At least that way it saves you the trouble of getting scammed.......

And just like evryone else is saying Nigeria has a high scam rate.

I use paypal atleast 5 times a week from ebay to half.com to other sources. If the money is still "pending" do not ship the item. When the money is "pending" its not yours just yet, and yes the buyer can get the money back. Now once is says "cleared" you are safe to ship the item. When it is "cleared" the money is yours and there is no way for the buyer to retrieve that money.

Hope that helped!

Oh if this were only half true. If the money is in your Paypal account they can reverse the charge and get their money back cleared or not. Its only safe if it is in your bank account. If you have credit cards linked to Paypal they can charge those for the amount being reversed. Paypal is dirty sand sneaky....you would be suprised what they can do.

i'm very sorry, paypal won't allow the money to go to your account if they didn't confirm the shipment

Of course they will. You can put money into anyone's Paypal for anything. I donated money for the girlieracer project through Paypal, and I'm pretty sure I didn't need to have Paypal confirm any shipment on it. As soon as you give them a tracking number, they yank the money, and your phone is already on it's way there.

One person contacting you by email and asking you to ship to another person? Stereotypical scam operation. The guy emailing you is probably in England or some other European country, oddly enough.

What part of "You are going to get f*cked on this deal" don't you get? Stop all communication with them and purge your Paypal of the transaction if you can.

This.

First rule of selling things, if you have to ask if it's a scam, IT'S A F*CKING SCAM!

My 83 year old senile grandmother could see through the bullsh!t that's piling up from the scammers.

First of all: I get e-mails from Nigeria like once a week. "Please collect this 16 Million US Dollars, it's yours" :nono:

Second of all: Sell your blackberries and keep the iPhones. :D

iPhone FTW!

:nono: Now now now, not everything is a scam. Did you read my post about winning the Australian lottery? As soon as I get a chance I'm going to the bank to see if they will let me withdraw my millions. I gotta do it soon, I'm almost out of gas and none of my cards work. I was told by someone on here it's because I have too much money in there. :hellyeah:

Dont listen to this guy, keep the blackberries and sell the iphones for sure.

I feel like I should regurgitate whats being said in this thread but Im not. I just want to see how this plays out because maybe itll make me laugh:p

if you have doubt then cancel the transaction asap. If he from nigeria he probably wont come and kick your ass, in case he really was legit. Besides he'll find another one and you'll sell yours locally np.

well i basically ended all comunication with that fellow. he keeps trying to convince me to send the item before his payment clears. f#$% that.
i listed another ad on ebay and this guy won the bidding for one iphone for 365 bucks and asks me to send it to some weird country name. i then told him that i only ship to the lower 48 united states, and i clearly stated that in the add.
this is crap. ive sold a few things through this site and ive never had any problems.
hell, dsmtuner members are so much easier to deal with. fast payments and i actually get an address im comfortable shipping to.

These type scams only work off greed! They play on the greed that us Americans are so consumed by. That's why they offer more then the item is worth and that why most people want to believe its real. JMO

If you want to mess with the guy. Get an empty box and take a crap in to it. Then ship it to him. Get a tracking # and all.Include a note that Says your dog ate the item but you have enclosed the remains, and hope he can still get some use from it.At least you wont be out the value of your item and you'll have the satisfaction knowing it was received when you get the delivery confirmation.ROFL

is there any way possible for me to get into trouble if i actually send CRAP. that would be f%$^&&* hilarious.

Technically, you'd be sending biohazardous material. I think there's probably a law against it.

just got another one in my email. just thought you guys would get a good laugh out of it. this time they are using childrens charity to scam some cash.
this is the title of the email cut and paisted,

"Part Time Job Opportunity - (WORLD VISION)‏".
and this is the contents of the email.

Hello,

My name is Larry Probus I work for The World Vision Charity Organization. I would be very interested in offering you a part-time paying opportunity in
which you could earn a lot. This opportunity would be based on contract and commission terms and would involve quite a handful of trust and honesty.

World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice. Over the years the organization has been rendering helps and supports on humanitarian services pretty much on orphanage homes, less privileged scholarship and subsidized medication for good health most especially in the developing world.

Presently, I have just been granted a funding to head a charity support project in the tropical regions of West Africa and Asia regarding Poverty Alleviation, Provision of clothing materials to all kids in rural areas, extending to Liberia, Sierra Leone, Mali etc, and more counseling on AIDS, which is increasing at an alarming rate and provision of basic amenities in support to humanitarian services to the third world nations and this would be commencing very soon.

However, my funding were by my American counterparts who sent me the bunch of donation mostly in US based money orders and cashier checks. Getting an accountant in the states or opening an account would have been my best choice but I have a deadline to meet and taking any of those choices would cost me time and a whole lot of other requirements I am not ready to deal with as I would be traveling a lot in the meantime. I would be willing to employ you on contract basis to be my Payment Representative back in the states

This way, I will instruct our donors to issue and make these Payments (Money Orders and cashier checks) out to you in your name, you could then process them easily, deduct ten percent ( 10%) of the total amount of each payment you receive as your commission for the great service you have rendered in support to saving life's in the third world and then have the rest wired to our Organization via Western Union Money Transfer. The Western Union Service fee should also be deducted alongside your 10% commission charge before having the rest wired via Western Union.

Bear it in mind that we would be dealing with quite a handful of money, and you could be making good money working with me in a short period of time.

I would be glad if you accept my proposal and I intend to commence on the project as soon as you are ready. If you are interested, please do properly fill out the Application form below, and then we shall make concluding arrangements.

According to how you have been briefed earlier by me. You are required and mandated to receive funds on behalf of the above mentioned organization. You will notify me a week ahead if eventually you want to discontinue this so as to terminate all payment coming your way to avoid conflict. In agreement to this kindly append signature below

I just had a scammer buy an item from me on eBay. I caught all the warning signs, cancelled the transaction and relisted the item. I had to take it deep on feedback, to which eBay will do nothing about.

What's worse is I can't believe people fall for these things.

yea i know right! if you want a charity that has the potential to make you a lot then go to a casino.... haha

LOL that name of the guy from nigiria sounded SO made up LOL his name started with OREO for god sakes :)...i remember gettin alot of messages from nigeria for a lot of stuff they are hillarious so i just enjoy reading the stupidity of scammers now and days

I ALWAYS state in my ebay auctions that I ship ONLY to the continental US.

i had a guy in the states do this send it and i'll give you WAYYY more then your asking deal.

I boxed up a piece of paper. It said,

Hey a$$hole. Enclosed is a piece of paper for you to enjoy and cherish. Hell you can use it to make your next clever scam plot.

Yours Truly,
CheekyBastard (xbox live account name haha)

Needless to say he ACTUALLY emailed me back. Saying how i was ungrateful and worthless....i laughed for days.
