Resolved Aluminum shavings in the oil pan

While I have the head off I decided to do a rebuild on the engine, everything but main bearings.

After pulling the oil pan I found 5 small balls of aluminum. They're about the size of a bolt thread. I've checked the cam journals and the rod bearings.

Only other place I can think of is balance shaft bearings or oil pump housing. Will be pulling those tomorrow. Anyone have any other ideas of where it could have came from.

Whew, dodged a bullet there. Shavings came from my rear balance shaft bearing. Guess even with regular maintenance they aren't designed for 300,000 miles.

Balance shaft elimination kit going in. Hopefully I can get another 300,000 out of her.

300,000? It's just hit it's maturity. ;P

436 000 km on my 1G ..... wich is the equivalent of 272 000 miles. dsm are like wine. Just getting better with time

Besides there aren't too many "used" parts left on the car. Body panels and interior is all I can think of. Mine is so spoiled I accidentally kicked the tool box, and a tire went flat.
