The alternator in my car was exposed to some weather over the course of a year or so. It still works but I figured since I am just finishing up a T-belt and waterpump replacement, now would be the time to replace it. So I checked around and they have the traditional 75 amp for turbo, a 90 amp for non-turbo, and then Bosch has some super alternator that puts out 160 amps. Of course the Bosch is $550 plus at Napa so I'm not really considering that unit. I will post a link in case someone else would be interested. So my question is will the 90 A unit install in my turbo car? I can't really see what the difference would be mounting-wise and I haven't had a chance to compare them side by side. If anyone has dealt with this, please advise.

I've seen the turbo alternators go in non-turbo cars, so it should work. I don't know how they will work out electrically, But I do know mechanically they should be the same.

EDIT: I see you have a 2G.. Are you reffering to the 420a NT, because I was speaking about the 1G cars..

I have a 95 Talon TSI AWD and I would like to put the larger output, 90A, alternator into it. The current unit is 75A and while that obviously works, I'd rather not have any issues if I upgrade the stereo system. I'm also a bit confused as to why the N/A cars would require 15 more amps.

Thanks for the input. The 90 A will be installed and if I run into anything odd, I'll post.

I just spoke with the Napa guys and they claim the 90 A alternator will not work. Apparently the mounts are the same however the 75A is a two wire and the 90A is a three wire. Any additional info would be welcome at this point.

it will work, I had to go to the junk yard a few weeks ago looking for wiring for my altenator cause some how mines was fried. saw a nt 4g63s cut the wiring, hooked it up to my 4g63t and the wiring works, the when I was under the hood of the nt 4g63 from the looks of it will fit and will work with out a problem.

edit: before I forget the turbo alt has a tensioning bolt on top, I'm not sure if the n/ts have it or not the one I was looking at was completely totalled and didn't notice it down there.
