Having some issues with voltage dropping off as i come to a stop. Im also running a couple subs so im wanting to run higher amp alternator. Would i be better off going with the saturn alternator swap or buying a high amp one for our cars off ebay. For the saturn one ive been reading alot on but seems to be alot of people argueing on what wire go where and then theres a thread that says it works better hooked up a different way. What should i do and does the saturn alt bolt up to stock location? Thanks

No Ebay.

I would off take the Alternator to fix,,,,, (to an Alternator Shop), Well, That's if your Alternator is an OEM.

Other wise get a Saturn, or a GM which is easier.

If you want to go the Alternator Shop route, they can probably change the windings and brushes to squeeze a few more amps out of the original housing. Otherwise it might just be cheaper to go to the local auto parts store and get a reman. Look for one with a lifetime warranty, like from Advance or AutoZone. Then you will never have to buy a new one.

As for your subs; put a capacitor in, and give your electrical system a buffer from the high current draw that comes when they hit.

No auto part Alternator here Dud.....

I have replaced 4 Alternators in 6 weeks, so, even with Life time warranty, I will never go that route again.

I would like to pay some extra money to get a real OEM or to Rebuild it or an Aftermarket Alternator of course.

You can try your local Mitsu or Chrysler dealer. I didn't look to see which of the cousins you had. It doesn't really matter tho. Just make sure you take the VIN with you, because ,at least Chrysler, no longer can look up our cars by year, make, model.

Edit, this information was for the op. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea. Some of the aftermarket alternators just aren't great on certain cars, I haven't had a problem with mine, however it is a Mitsu unit.

Yea as i said im on my third one now its getting sad..
A cap wont change my lights coming to a dim at stops either.

No that is def alternator. My recommendation remains, go to the Chrysler dealer pick up an OEM unit, install that. Take the AutoZone one back to work and return it defective. Then take that money, pick up a cap and put that in as insurance for the entire electrical system. First tho, check your battery. That can actually damage a new alternator.

I've been working on my own cars for ten years, stereos for 13, and I did a two year stint at Advance Auto Parts as the parts pro. And I have ASE's in Automotive electrical, and Parts Specialist. Not to sound like a Dick but when it comes to the electrical system and audio system, I know what I'm talking about.

I know you are asking for answers about your alternator, but you should also upgrade you battery if you are running that much juice to your subs. Caps are great for bursts, but for a steady load, they won't be able to keep up. You need a battery made for large loads as well. I have been using Optima yellow tops for years. They are by far the best battery out there. I have a 12 year old yellow top in my Eclipse and it works like the day I bought it! I have put it through every thing you can imagine. I use to do car stereo competitions with it and I even drove over 100 miles on it when my alternator went out in my Cavalier that the battery was in previously!:hellyeah:
