2G alternator generator relay delete

i know they did away with these on the later models and ive heard of people taking them out. i did remove mine but as a double check before i put everything back together id like to see what anyone else has to say.

I always thought these were built into the later alternators? And not fully removed as it acts like a safety thing?? But I could of read it wrong

From what I read its a back up if the battery light on the dash stops working. The alternator kicks on by that light or the relay. When has anyone had a problem with the battery light though

I've heard a couple people have. Light burns out or doen't make good contact (corrosion). So you are correct about that relay being a backup to the light. Old post, but im having a similar problem. I have a 97 GSX that is not charging. New alternator and battery. I was ready to pull the intake and try another alternator before I starting reading about the dash light and generator relay being needed.

There is no generator relay to be found, although I see a plug where it probably was. My dash light is not working also which is why I think the issue lies here. I replaced the bulb with a working light and it still does not come on with the key to acc.

Can someone lead me to what wire I need to check to get this dash light working and hopefully start charging the alternator?
