Alright I knew I wouldn't win but here's what happened. My friend wanted to compare his car to mine, he just got his car a couple weeks ago and has a K+N filter and a N1 catback on already, no boost controller yet. My mods on right now are dejontool intake (with some ebay filter on it), dejontool upper ic pipe, dejontool s pipe, 1g bov, ngk wires, ngk bpr7es, extremepsi 3" catback, and as well I have no boost controller. We raced 3 times, same outcome with him about a car ahead, each time we both started in 2nd since I didn't want to grind it going into 2nd and I shifted at redline everytime, I don't usually pay attention to when my boost starts to fall so I probably should've shifted sooner.

I was thinking of getting a boost controller before I got my gauge but it seems pointless because my gauge says I'm already running 16psi (creeps to 18) so I'm not sure if it's even worth it to buy a mbc.

I thought that I would beat him by the amount he beat me by but I was wrong. What do you guys think, should I win with my mods are is that an accurate outcome, and should I buy a boost controller? Thanks.

You cant drive...Im sorry. Practice you should have whooped him pretty badlly.
Andrew

edit: you would be faster at 13-14psi over 16psi.

Yes, get a boost controller so you can turn the boost down to a level your car can handle. Bone stock a 2G has 210 HP and a 1G has 195. With equal mods the 2G should still be ahead. Most likely you're knocking and getting the timing pulled. If you get a fuel pump your car would be able to handle 16 psi better.

Not to be rude but I can drive, I took an 89 GTi to the track and pulled a 16.4, completely stock, and considering that was my first time to the track and the fact that I RARELY race (never went to illegals, only messed around on the street two or three times with friends) that is a good time, and that's what they run stock...if not better then rated.

Anyways I took my car to work today and checked my gauge it was staying at 11-12 psi, didn't creep at all. Looks like I'll be getting a boost controller then along with a fuel pump and injectors.

And also what is knock, I never really figured that out yet same with having my timing pulled.

Just cause you ran a 16.4 you think you can drive ? 89 GTIs have less tq making them easy to launch. Just cause you drove one car to a particular time doesn't mean you can do the same with another FASTER car.

...I HIGHLY doubt it had anything to do with my driving ability, maybe the point at which I shifted at but that's all, that was the first time I raced my car against somebody. We didn't go from a launch so that is not a factor in this case.

In case you didn't see my previous post, my boost gauge is reading 11psi at WOT, I guess I was misreading it before. My friend said his gauge is reading 11psi at WOT as well.

*EDIT* Forgot to mention that his motor was replaced with a low mileage one, mine has 98k on it. Also other then his n1 catback, k+n filter, he hacked his MAS, and some other free mods I beleive, and has some plug wires (red so either either Nology or Magnecores?) not sure if those extra few mods make a diff but I forgot to mention that when I started the thread.

For the mechanically declined(no offense) knock is a sound an engine makes caused by something going wrong, the ecu reacts to the signal from the knock sensor by pulling time or retarding your timing which takes away power.the best my car performed on the t25 was at about 13psi other then that every psi after that makes the car slower.
Andrew

PS I know it does cause mine was at 16-17 and timing was being pulled badly.

I have similar mods as yours but the boost at 16psi and i whooped several stock 1g's. By atleast 3 car lengths each time. There is no way stock for stock that a 1g should beat a 2g and your not even stock.

I know what you mean...I was messing around with my friend in his Spec V and I was in my dad's GSX and this is before I knew about the boost dopping after 6000 RPMS. I got him easly off the line but as third gear approached and I redlined the car, he pulled ahead....damn my ignorance....He took me, but I should have had him...not to mention my dads GSX is a daily driver and has 180,000 highway miles on it.

Yeah I thought I would beat him too but I didn't. Each time we raced he jumped before I did, after that neither of us would pull on each other, I would try racing him from a stop but my tires don't have any grip right now and also my 2nd gear grinds bad. If we were to go from a 10mph roll, I would lost traction once I go WOT, then going into 2nd would slow me down.

I told him that I want to go again, this time I guess I'll try shifting at 6k instead of at redline, and I'll try to get up at higher rpms before we start, he didn't know what I was doing when I was trying to setup so he would jump ahead so I would start behind. I'll make sure it's a legit race this time.

*EDIT* My friend is getting a boost controller I'll be getting one too, I should get my gaskets today or on Mon so I'll be able to put my 3" downpipe soon. I'm hoping to expect a lot of gains with the boost controller and downpipe.

That's the thing I don't like about street racing; it's really hard to have both cars start at the same time, especially from a rolling start, and to make sure both are ready. If a car gets the slightest head start it gains a big advantage for the whole race. One good way to help equalize the start is to agree on a starting signal, such as three horn honks spaced about one full second apart, and go on the third honk.

Yeah on the third run I was trying to get my rpms up, but the light behind us turned green so cars were coming so I just started honking and we went, I beat him the last run but he missed 3rd . That would've been a more accurate race if he didn't miss 3rd gear cause after that I was about three cars ahead. I shut down at 100.

Why are you guys saying that a modded 2G will beat a an equally modded 1G? The 1Gs have the 14b while 2G have the T-2small. I would think that the 1G would win. IMO the outcome of this race was about right.

2G's stock have more horsepower.

2G : 210

1G: 195

ALMOST stock not completely, above I posted this...
