I wish I would have seen this thread earlier, but this is my view on the whole thing. First of all, both the 420A and the 4G63 are very capable engines so there is no need to go knocking either of them. Im not going to act like I know a lot about 4G63's so I am going to leave all that alone, but I do know that anytime a question like this comes up you turbo guys come in and say just buy a turbo car when it is not always that simple. Sure 1G's are cheaper, but IMO they are much uglier than any 2G. I personally hate that you guys come into the forum and spread misinformation. You dont see NT guys doing it in your forum do you? If you are not certain on a certain topic leave it alone. Im not bashing on anyone in particular, but you guys know what I mean. That being said, with the HRC kit our cars are capable of supporting about 10psi (as long as there is enough fuel), not 4 or 5 or whatever else was said. Some are pushing 12psi with a STAR kit, which comes with a T3/T4 on the stock bottom end. I think that says a lot about how great our bottom end is (as far as stock NA cars go). Once the car is rebuilt with forged rods and pistons people have pushed more than 25lbs with race gas. In fact there is one guy on the 2GNT board who is pushing 21psi on a T3/T4 with nothing but the rebuild, ECI, and the other supporting mods. As far as if the tranny can take it, there are a few guys out there with a stage 3 kit on a stock tranny, but I dont know how long it will stand the abuse. Even with the manual trannied cars you will need to upgrade the clutch at the very least.

me and 1TuffRS think so much alike its fuxxing scary. Last DSM meet I was th eonly guy there with a non turbo, next time I plan on being the only guy there with a TURBO'ed 420A

I just wanted to chime in here real quick guy's. I don't think the 420a takes alot more money to build than the 4g63. When you concider that all it takes is a star stage 2 kit to be faster than a lightly moded gst that tells you a few things. I too am tired of people saying the 420a can't make the power and all that. I just wish that people would realize what really goes on with the 420a. I havn't priced any 4g63 mods but let me give you some #'s. I bought my car for $7 add in $2,500 (rounding up it didn't really cost that much) for a star stage 2 kit with ball bearing e trim turbo and all guages and instalation expences (used kit). That's about what a gst or tsi would cost you out of the box (if not more), and I'm already faster. Add in a rebuild wich I can do myself for about $2,000 (including porting and polishing and valve job). That puts me up to $11,500 thats less than what alot of turbo guy's I know paid for their cars and it's much faster. Then you add in another $2-3k for some axles and electronics and where are you at? At most your at $14,500 for a car that would walk just about any 4g63. I know it all depends on how much you pay for the car at first but come on thats less than what some people pay for a 4g63 plus you don't have the insurance. These are just base numbers and I know I'll get flamed for this but I don't care. The 4g63 is not the end all be all of dsm's and I'm tired of people acting like it is. Plus if you get a 2.2L stroker or do the 2.4L swap instead of a rebuild it gives you that much more power for under $1k more than above. Not only that but every engine will need a rebuild sooner or later and if you guy's want to go over 500hp you have to rebuild too (I admit this number is what I have heard you 4g63 guy's MAY be able to handle more than that stock). Now I know this work is not as easy as it sounds and it would take some tuning but it's possible and is in the process of being done. These are just my 2 cents and my figures, But I would love to see a 2g GST or TSI beat this car for less than $16k including purchase price. Now all these comparrisons are based on 2g's not 1g's.

now in responce to the thread:
First off you will never complete that motor swap without getting a serious loan, so I wouldn't even travel that road. A manuel tranny swap is not $5k, take a look at 2gnt.com several guy's have done it and they didn't drop that much cash. He can go to stage 3 wich includes internals but he has to learn how to drive it and respect it first. Basicly if you want real uncorrupted knowladge about the 420a come to the site that knows about the 420a: www.2gnt.com

why are 1g's uglier than all 2g's.. that's just your opinion.. i hate 2g's personally and that's just my opinion.. they way i see it ppl only buy them because they are 10 times easier to rice up.. woo hoo.. ground effects don't produce hp.. sure it's nice to have a car that looks real good but i like how my car looks and i'm sure so do alot of other 1g owners.. i coulda bought a 2g for cheeper than i paid for my car but i didn't want it.. my point is whether you think the car is ugly or not it will not change the engine in the cars. also, i like the 420a and i heard there are less problems with it but hey, i'm driving a 1g so i have to back it up naturally

just wanted to kow if you kow so much and have a fast prelude you could have porlly spent half the money and time and put a OBD0 B18w/turbo into an EG and had alot faster of a car than you do now and i dont even know what you have in yout "LUDE". just my .02

1TuffRS , what tranny would you get after stage III? There arent any companies out there that do tranny upgrades like Shepracing, or BM tranny or TRE. The only thing I can think of is an 04' SRT-4 tranny as an upgrade, and driveshaftshop axles. (stronger)

Just let the kid do what he wants. You could have the fastest engine in the world and still be shit for a driver and get 17s in the 1/4. If he wants a stage 3 then do it. To me it would be a waste of money because nos seems cheapter than turbo kit to me. If your just looking to beat any ol ricer on the road just get nos. The ladies like the bottle in the back too ;)
