Just want to let you guys who has a HKS BOV venting know that you should get a recirculating fitting as soon as possible. I just put on the fitting an hour ago and took it out for a test drive. Damn! It's so amazing! The car drives a lot better and I actually noticed quite some performance gain from it, maybe I'm running pig rich from venting. This is the best $15 I have spent for my car so far. I should have done this long time ago if I knew the difference was so huge. Gone is the whoosh sound but being a sleeper I love it and I don't have to worry about making some loud bov noise unintendedly, especially when cops are around. So go out to get one and trust me if you think your car vents without problems then you'll know you're very wrong after putting one on.

Peace :dsm:

well, if you do thing the proper way. and go with a gm maft setup you dont have to worry about any of that crap..

i personally love the look on a ls1 owners face when i blow off as i rocket out of 1st.. its amazing and they know jet sound, bov, ohh i just eat the turbo..

Nice opinion though

i agree my car did start running better when i recirculated mine also..sucks that we waited..

I got it for $15 shipped but I don't want to post it here so pls send me a PM. It's just a simple aluminium piece but it's well worth it not because of the value but what it does.

fiveiron, yeah I totally agree with you I kick myself for getting it after having my car for more than a year, it should be the first thing to get for you guys with the HKS bov. Yes it can be vented with MAFT setup, but I still prefer not to have the loud bov sound, sometimes I find it too annoying I even tried to shift slowly to just avoid that, it's just me.

Im gonna be ordering a bunch of new gear for my car soon, including a new uicp and HKS SSV, im also going to get the recirc kit, and recirc it temporarily. After i get some more cash together im gonna do the gm maft setup and vent that sucker like there's no tommorow.

Like i said, in a previous thread, call me a ricer, but i like that BOV sound :D

i dont know what kind of problems you guys have becuase i have vented since i had my car and i have gon through 4 bovs RFL type s type rs and now i have the HKS SS and never getting a diff one. and never any probs i guess i'm glad that i can vent wih no problems because that SS is a scary sound to most people

Actually I could vent without any problems too not like somebody having some idle problems venting. But as I said the car just felt much better and smoother after recirculating it, I think because it's not running rich now. I always felt that the amount of air I vented was contributing to the horsepower that I was able to make if it's recirculated, and I don't like the loud sound from venting when I just drive around town.

You have problems if you vent. You don't have a special MAS that detects mass airflow lost through the BOV.

And yes the fitting costs $15, the kit costs $45.....$30 more for a bent rubber hose. Go figure!

what a coincidence.. I went out to my garage today and connected my adapter to the bov, and into my injen intake. But as soon as I wanted to take it for a drive, it started snowing, and still is. Maybe in a few days when things clear up and my logger arrives :)

Here's some pictures:

agree with sickguy...didnt have idle problems..just when i recirculated i was running smoother..its hard to explain..i just could tell :thumb:

roads dried a bit today, so I got to take out the car! Excellent results from recirculating -- I noticed the following:

No sound when shifting / letting off gas (obvious)
Smoother transition from partial throttle to letting off the gas (car doesn't jerk)
HUGE improvement in bottom end torque
quicker spool up times in 2nd and 3rd gear, which has been plauging me for a long time now.

My final opinion: :thumb:

Recirc'ing it will make a huge difference if you don't have a setup that properly vents.

Okay my friend has a 99 GSX with a greddy type S BOV, I'm reading these threads wondering what I'm going to tell him to make his car go faster.

Now I know he likes the sound of his BOV going off (I'm assuming thats what you all mean by venting), but he would also like to go faster when he races.
So I'm asking if a recirculation kit that connects your BOV to your intake would it quiet the sound of the BOV?

Also check my understanding on this one.

The Maft thing you guys are talking about has to do with telling the (Mass air flow sensor) to account for the air that is lost from the BOV, and thus by having this still keeps the sound loud?

Also is there a way to plug and play a recirculation kit. Put it together at the track, take it off and leave it in the trunk? It seems like an easy install, but I really have no clue?

yes if you put on the recirc. kit it will quiet down the blow off valve.
yes he will notice a large improvement at the track
yes you can remove and install this peice in about 5 minutes.

The type S is still decently loud when recirculated. And it takes a total of 20 seconds to un-do the 2 screws that hold the rubber tube on.
