Hey all.. just picked up a 98 talon TSI AWD, and it has the factory alarm.. and for what ever reason, after i arm the system with the remote, i walk away for like 2 minutes and it goes off.. and i cant get it to shut off.. i live in an apartment complex, and i cant have it doing this.. i had to drive it away, into an empty parking lot until it shut off.. like nothing works. the last time i did it, i used the key in the door, and it shut off.. so is there something i'm doing wrong? Thanks

It goes off after two minutes every time???

You can't shut it off..are you sure you're not just panicking? I believe you're supposed to be able to press the alarm button once again to shut it off, or putting the key in the door & turning it should shut it off also. If you're panicking to shut it off though for some reason these don't work...:|

well, it was fine all day.. now just tonight after work..(after i unlocked and reamred my car about 4 times) its all the sudden doing it. the remote doesnt turn the alarm off.. like at all. but the key to the right does. the remote has new batteries, and its my user error. Also, after i arm the car, the "security" light goes off after about 15 to 20 seconds. is this normal?

the previous owner thinks its the driver door sensor, but it was fine all day.

to add the the madness, i can start my car and drive it while the alarm goes off.. is that normal. dont most alarms disable the ign? who knows.

I had a problem like that and there is a sensor on a bracket next to the drivers side head light under the hood and over time the bracket gets bent, try bending it up a little and see if it helps. It fixed my problem when I tried that.

I had the same problem on my Galant. Bending the bracket fixed the problem

Which bracket are you all talking about. If anybody has a pic it will greatly be appreciated.

Just look underneath your hood for a plunger type switch, similar to the ones for the doors, that is depressed when the hood is closed, and up when the hood is open. There should be a rubber boot covering it.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but today my car all of a sudden came up with a weird alarm issue as well, and to not make a new thread, i thought i'd post here.
I have the factory alarm, and today after unlocking the door with my key the alarm goes off, and wouldn't stop even after i turn the car on. Very weird. I kept trying different techniques to shut it off but to no avail. I finally just thought maybe a reset would be good, i disconnected the positive battery terminal and reconnected it and the security system started working again and the security light shows up after locking the car.
Just an odd occasion.
Anyone know why this might have happened ? And will getting an aftermarket alarm system solve this ?

There is a switch at the end of the actual door LOCK cylinder. It may have broken off or just failed.

To ge to this wire you need to remove the inner door panel and the door handle. You will then see the small plastic switch on the back of the lock with a wire running to it.

That switch is supposed to DISARM the alarm when you turn the key to unlock the door

Ok thanks. I'm trying not to disarm my alarm system until i get me an aftermarket one.
Anyone have experience with clifford or viper alarm systems ? Which one would you recommend ?
