air can of cannot

I have had my car for almost a week now and I cant get the stupid air filter out of the air can. not even the MAS. I have unhooked the three clips but I just cant get it out far enough. Can I just remove the entire air can. I heard it will get hot air from the engine but I figured when it hit the turbo it would just get heated anyway. I plan on putting in a hard intake tube and getting a k&n filter soon. So can I just remove the air can?

did u unbolt your can from the frame? that may help. theres 3 bolts thats holding it in place. almost impossible to take filter out with it bolted in place. also unbolt the bov tube from the can.

alot of people just cut their can open leaving filter exposed but still be able to hold fthe filter on the maf with the 3 clips.

Remove the can. You can tweak the clips to hold the filter on tight enough. You can also cut the bottom ring off the can and use it as a retainer to clip to. There is no BOV tube on the can. The BOV tube goes into the corogated tube between the mas and the turbo. ( you should already know that ). Don't worry about hot air. The restriction you are getting now is worse than the air temp you will get.

i meant the metal tube that is bolted to the can that the bov is bolted onto, not the recirulating tube. i took my can completly off and did what forced4 said to do. but dont use the stock filter because once it gets wet its pretty much ruined.

I got ya. You meant the 2 bolts that hold it in place. By bad. I use a K&N filter and I have no problems with it getting wet. I do live in Arizona though, I rarley have trouble with my tires getting wet for that matter.

I just removed the entire can, and used the clips to hold the K&N filter on. If you want a little added security, you can put some silicone around the edges of the filter before you clamp it. Works great.
