aftermarket rocker arms?

Ok so ive been looking around and have noticed that i cant seem to find aftermarket rocker arms. im wondering if anyone knows where i can get some, if anybody makes them or if i have to use stock and if there is anything i can do to upgrade them i.e. coatings and such?

Is it possible you haven't looked hard enough or possibly do not know where to look? I guarantee any parts store will be able to get (if they don't stock them), these rocker arms. It will just depend from what company they get theirs from.

if you can get them, the evo 8 rocker arms are 3.7 grams lighter than the DSM ones. It's not much but every little bit helps!

He and i were talking about what kind of lifters he is going to run and he asked if i knew anything about upgraded lifters and i didnt so i looked around for a few hours and didnt come up with anything so i figured id ask you guys haha.

From what I hear ITM makes decent lifters and I haven't for sure heard about their oil pumps. If those two things are good, quality pieces though then I see no problem with using their rocker arms.

The ones from NAPA, will be just a replacement follower.($18 ea) So no upgrade there. If you were looking for something made by COMP, Crane, Lunati or some cam manufacture, I doubt they exist.

The EVO VIII have a stamped steel body, instead of a cast body of the DSM that is why they are lighter. I also doubt going to the expense of the EVO followers will make a noticeable difference in performance on a stock to a mid level power 4g engine.

Now for HLA's (Lifters) There are several sources for them, ITM, TopLine, and ENGBLDR to name a few. Those are installed to remove the "Lifter Tic" that happens.

So if you do not have the Tic, you do not need them (Yet)

If you search 3g lifter, Lifter tic, you will find out all about it

I hope your Cousin had the head bolt holes reamed out from 12mm to 13mm so he will not have a tight fit issue when he installs the 2g/7 bolt head on the 6 bolt block.

Ya, what bogus said. Not much of a gain on swappin rocker arms. Me and my bestfriend boostdriven both clear 600 ponies all day long and a rocker-arm upgrade hasn't even been considered from either one of us. And ya, 7bolt heads that go onto 6bolt blocks, the head has to be drilled open by a machine shop man to accept the one size fatter head bolts/studs

What turbo will be used if you don't mind me askin? Any engine built to take eleven thousand rev's and make four digit power on a polygraph (dyno) should already have all its base's covered. If this shop built the motor to take that kinda punishment than a lifter/rocker arm question shouldn't even need to be asked in my opinion. Have you ever first hand compared 1G and 2G lifters side by side? Its obvious which one is better. I've heard of guys clearing a thousand ponies but I'm quite certain every one that's done it was rockin DSM rockers. I'm sorta fond of the lan evo 8 lifter idea

1000 hp That is a rare club to get into, 11k, thats even a slimmer club to join.

L19 is the metal of the head stud, it has nothing to do with the dia of the head stud, or the head bolt hole of the head.

Actually i dont mind its not my build . hes not looking to actually pull 4digits out of it. hes only lookin for about 700. He had it built to be able to handle it if he wants to take it there. to start hes going to run a gt35r. 1200 injectors. double pumper fp. 280 cams and either ecm link or say screw it and have a megasquirt built. not to mention quite a few other goodies .

And really the only reason the subject of rocker arms came up is because of v8s weve built in the past and figured y not do it on a 4cyl .

MegaSquirt is only good for being a "science" project if you will. If you wanna go through all the hassle of makin $hit and soldering and custom length wires and harness bundles and all that jive just for the learning experience than hell ya. I WOULD NOT RECOMEND MEGASQUIRT FOR AN ACTUAL HIGH HORSE POWER BUILD! If this was a homemade turbo kit on a Honda single slammer D series than ya, MegaSquirt. Definatley don't put that crap on a name brand engine build. You will regret it. DSMLINK version 3 will be the best for the money spent. Later on down the road if the wallet ain't hurtin to bad you can go to Motec or AEM. But these systems require an actuall pro tuner, or a scientist smart as f#ck guy to establish your base maps to even get it to start and begin to tune... I say go with LINK. Can't go wrong there.

The turbo and parts you just explained, only sound about 500ish horsepower to me...

I dont know about all that . from what ive understood about megasquirt now its supposed tho be built as a direct fit stand alone built acording to whats already been done to the car and also what you plan to do to it in the future. also that the new software has the same user friendly type interface as ecm link. i was also told that it runs on factory tune as base line. i personally dont have expieriance with it so i dont really know. but like i said not my build .

As far as 500 i think thats probly undercutting a bit. but like you said the polygraph will tell all

Ya he doesnt want to really take it that far but had it built to handle it. better to have to much than not enough . I do know that the head and block have been machined to fit as they were built together as a package type deal. it probly wont be up till like next summer or so but ill deffinately put some pics and stuff up as it comes together.

Megasquirt is a build it your self do it your self "poor mans" stand alone. There's WAY to many variables to go wrong with megasquirt. C'mon guys, some one chime in and explain what the eff about megasquirt.

I just did a little research on it but from what i read yes it is a build it yourself stand alone but it can be preassembled and be a plug and play system but from what i just read as far as cost it would be better to go with aem for a full stand alone. but id have to agree about going ahead with ecm link. megasquirt for a dsm plug and play is like 900 bucks and everything thats not stock has to be tuned in prior to start up. but i would imagine ecm link and aem are the same.

Ok, so you still don't grasp the entire concept of MegaSquirt, gettin better, but not quite there. Its FAR more indepth and complicated than you think, and you have to use a lot of stupid bullshit sensors like Motoralla sensors from RadioShack. You have to be experience with nice solder conections and building plugs and stuff. I know this because I have a friend that has built about 3 of these for some stupid VW platform that had no other options.

Trust me, megasquirt would make for a good science project just to make you a better mechanic/teach you how stuff works.

AEM and DSMLINK are nothing alike my friend. AEM has to have a PRO calibrate your base maps and shit just to even get the car to start. I've attended EFI 101 , I'm a mechanic workin in the feild of over 10 years experience. Trust me bro, AEM EMS and ECMLINK have no similarities. AEM is 20 times more complicated and require more brains and know-how from the user.

DSMLINK is like a badass piggyback that just so happens to be built into your factory ECU. I'm not gonna go into big 'ol in debth and shit, but let's all just agree that DSMLINK is like the only engine management that truly trains its user into becoming an actual tuner. Nuff said, period. With Motec and blahblahblah you'll be scratchin your head like a dumbass in confusion
