ok im new on here and not too sure how this all works.

but heres my problem. my machine shop guy ordered a set of Crane Cams for my car. when i got my head home and opened the new camshafts to install them, it turns out the ones that Crane sent were for a dodge neon:cry: trying to work to return them and get the right ones to fit what my machine shop guy thought i needed for my car, turns out it will be several weeks for Crane to make the 431-0016. but i am not even sure if these are the camshafts i need.

can someone please help me with this. the 431-0016 camshafts say for port work and all that, but what else would i need with these cams? and would these cams make for poor idle?

well the cams that are for a neon definately wont work with our 420a's and as far as what else you need, most of them require you have and aftermarket cylinder head but you can still get by with titanium springs and retainers

no doubt the neon cams are on their way back

the only thing is that i had the valves cut and everthing is back together but the cams are not in so i could install the head bolts.

i have the knowledge to do valve jobs, just none of the tools here at home to do it with.
plus this guy is a pro with racing engines. i should trust his judgement on cams, but im not sure how much experience he has had with tuners. plus if he let me leave with cams for a neon, that seems a bit sloppy.

im just curious, with what i have done, if i need an extreme cam, or if a light cam or stock will do the trick. and if i need cams do i go with Crane or i heard something about crower, are they any good?

thanks.

alright nevermind everyone. sorry if i messed up the threads or anything but ive made my own decission on cams. i was just curious on other peoples opinions.

thanks.

Wrong.

1. There are no aftermarket cylinder heads, nor is any modification required of the head to install said upgraded cams.

2. Valve spring retainers are available in Titanium, but they are in no way a requirement for any build. While Titanium is stronger, the greatest benefit to installing Ti retainers is the reduction of weight in the valvetrain.

3. If you know where to find Titanium valve springs, I'm sure many of us would like to know.

As for the OP's questions, and future reference, you can *NOT* use Neon cams in a 2GNT. Milder cams, like the Crane 0010/0012 or Crower 1, do not require upgraded valve springs, although you would be wise to invest in a set for good measure. Anything beyond those models and you will be risking your engine to a dropped valve or your power to valve float when the stock springs are unable to handle the higher lift and duration of the more aggressive profiles.

Hope this helps. Feeling generous today.
