I plan on buying an aftermarket blow-off valve.I was just wondering what anyone's suggestions were on the best one to buy.

Not like this topic hasnt been beaten to death or anything...but it's ok.

I vote for Hks SSQV
Greddy Type-S is nice as well

I dont have one, my vents into the atmosphere and because of that its loud! It scares bystanders :D , why would i need the recirculation kit?

So you don't go rich whenever you vent. Your car was designed to be recirculated. You're blowing METERED air out of that BOV, which is changing the air-fuel ratio. Do a search on venting BOV's, it will pull up a wealth of threads discussing this. :thumb:

So you won't have a draggin ass idle. Sometime you can have so much fuel going through it can cause fuel cut, which is pretty damn embarrassing to have happen. You should seriously consider getting the recirc hose, or if you want to vent that badly, get a MAF translator set up. If you do that, get the blow thru set on the I/C pipes, not the setup to have it on the intake. :thumb:

venting with a stock mas is bad.. period, end of discussion horse dead.. you need a VPC, stand alone (haltech/aem/whatever) or the stupid maf set up as blowthrough on the upper IC..

greddy type S is the best.. no recirc kit needed, fully adjustable..

And what makes the maft so stupid?

I found the TurboSmart Dual Port Blow Off Valve. It vents to the atmosphere and back to the intake. Is this good or bad?

if it was given to me i would use it, but from what ive seen of it (friend has it) its a pain in the ass to tune with.. I would still buy an AFC.. maf only adjust in 5% increments.. and has no display of any info or nothing... then ya gotta buy the blowthrough kit etc etc.. you end up spending a shitload of money to replace a 2g mas.. and ive seen enough people run 11s and 12s with the 2g mas to decide i dont need to replace it with the GM thing.. if anything i wouyld get a VPC or haltech or similar...

if course im only going by first hand experence.. not what others tell me.

Seeing what your friend has to deal with, is not first hand experience since you don't have it yourself. With the directions, the MAFT is too easy to tune with. It may have no display, but if you can read, and have an understanding on what each setting does on the translator, then there is no big deal. True you can run 11s with a 2G mas, but the guy was asking about venting with out problems. roughly 700 $ for the whole blow-thru setup costs too much? the haltech, and VPC cost more.

I do have the first hand experience with the maft. It's not what others tell me-as I have one of my own.

Do you have the maft, haltech or vpc? Nope, didn't think so. :thumbdown

Screw the aftermarket BOV's, I have a Greddy Type-S, I like it, but I wish I would have just gotten a 1g BOV, cheaper and it will hold 20 psi just fine.

My suggestions is to get a Greddy Type-S, or get a 1g bov from the junkard for like 30-40 bucks and GET A DAVE BRODE UICP, I can't stress how nice his stuff is and nobody buys it. He gives you everything, and the pipe is flanged for the 1g bov (which can easily hold the Greddy Type-S with a simple modification.)

Vent the 1g BOV :p . It sounds kinda like the greddy but has a little tweet sound from 0 (atmospheric pressure) to full vacuum, and its pretty loud. Save a little more money and get the new v2.0 maft.

The original poster drives a 2G.

So shouldn't the orignal poster get a 1G BOV since it's much better then the 2G and save some money? I'm just wondering because thats what i plan on doing.

Yes, he should. You're right on the money :thumb:

i'm lovin' all the "VENT AND IDLE BAD AND STALL AND BUCK AT WOT" rhetoric, for since day one with the HKS SSQV (sans recirculation kit) i have had NO problem whatsoever in any way shape or form. try it without a recirc kit, and IF you need it, THEN buy one.

well i helped tune the car with the wideband and all that crap and whatnot, and have worked with the haltech (messing with a RX7 with a e11 now as a matter of fact) and the MAFT is just more hype than its worth..

if I had a 1g i would buy the MAFT over buying a 2g mas.. maby, but like i said the Maft is not as good as an AFC for tuning and never will be.. its just a good replacment for a stock 1g mas air.. and thats it. 5% increments may be acceptable to some people.. but when i hook up the wideband and i want to run 11.2/1 A/F.. and on one maf setting I get 10.8 and on the next click i get 11.5 It pisses me off.. no big deal though, the only thing that can get hurt really is the motor.

Maft > 1g MAFT
2g MAS& AFC >MAFT

Haltech E6k or 11k >*

there is a point where the 2g mas becaomes a real restriction.. but your talking MAJOR huge turbo.. in fact youll prolly need a fully race ported head, huge IC pipes, HUGE sheet metal intake and all that good stuff becfore you need something that flows more than a 2g MAS allows..
