Ok, so I am very very close to upgrading my turbo, and with my new turbo, I'm going to obviously have to run a turbo timer with it to keep its life span pretty long and such. Also, I want an aftermarket alarm as well, because with the more and more parts I begin to install on my car, I catch more and more people staring at it, and sometimes closer to the car then they really should be. This makes me nervous because I can't afford to have my car stolen. I was wondering if there was anyone out there that runs a turbo timer as well as an aftermarket higher end alarm, and how that works because I understand that if you do have an aftermarket alarm, you have to wait for the allotted time to have the car shut off before you can set the alarm...

I know there are the kind of alarms that come with turbo timers, but I already have a timer here...so all I'll need is the alarm

Are there any alarms out there that allow you to set the alarm while the turbo timer counts down?

viper 791xv...i got it from bigondigital.com (click personal audio on the side, then click he viper symbol) you can arm the car with the timer going, arm the car while driving it...LOL wat ever the use of that is...and auto start (have the car in neutral pleaseee) and a number of other things like window roll down etc...its also a lot of accessories for it too..i just ordered the prox. sensor for mine so i can leave the top down and still be alerted when someone gets into the car through the 2-way pager remote. there are broken glass sensors, tilt sensors, hood locks, a whole bunch of other things...just ask me if you have any other questions. :thumb:

I use the CompuStar 2way with built in 2 minute turbo timer, works for me, as simple as pressing the brake pedal down if you don't want to run the timer, but you cannot easily adjust the length if you had a regular timer, only downside.

yes, the Viper 791xv has a built in turbo timer with preset 1,3,5 min run times. i just installed mine a few weeks ago and LOVE IT! i'm a DEI (Viper) dealer, and finally got around to putting it on my own vehicle. you can let it run, take out the key, get out, arm it (lock it) and walk away. if your still within it's claimed 1500 foot range, it will even let you know when it shuts off. ... and/or page you if the alarm goes off while your not there, and tell you if it was the door, hood, trunk, or shock sensor that was triggered. also, if your hooking up the turbo timer, it will also have Remote Start then too. just BE CAREFUL hooking up a remote start on a 5spd. don't want to run over anybody by accidentally leaving it in gear and then remote starting it. it WILL pull your car forward.

I don't know about yours, but in order to remote start on mine there is a certain shutdown procedure you need to follow in order to start the car remotely. Press in brake, put the car in netural, pull the ebrake, let off the brake pedal, wait to hear the brain tick, then its set and you can remove the key. If you press the brake or ebrake it breaks the sequence and also kills the turbo timer, very good failsafe imho. This is for the CompuStar though, it takes time getting used to and a bit of adjustment.

Yeah, Periphial makes a piece that does that same thing. i chose not to install it though. i could add it on though, i think cost is between $25-$50 on it.

now will that alarm still arm if I have like a greddy turbo timer already or soemthing like that?

yea it should...but i dont see why you would need one if you were going to be using the one off the alarm...

The alarm isn't too costly, considering most turbo timers cost around $100. What sort of places would install an alarm that I didn't buy through them, and how much would the installation cost?

Also, for the turbo timer, do you normally leave it set at 1, 3, or 5 minutes? Is 1 minute too short?

you coulddddd install it yourself...but if anything were to go wrong you would want papers showing it was pro installed...i just took mine to a local shop (dont go to best buy!) and gave them the box with the alarm i got offline..since its a local shop they did all the illegal stuff for me, such as auto start on a 5speed, and i got it done at a discounted price. it should cost around $170 at the mossstt!! to be installed. just shop around for deals. i would suggest buying it offline because its like a $550 alarm so im guessing most shops would charge that much. but if you can find it for around $200-250 then its not that bad of an idea to get it from the shop.

and my timer is on 1min because i still have the lil t-25

Hmm so what you guys are saying is that we should and it's worth it to get those high end Viper/Clifford alarms? With all those features?

you can make any aftermarket alarm arm when the car is still on. basically dsm's have two ignition wires you hook your ignition input into the other one on the harness and it will let you arm the car when it is still running because it doesnt sense that the car's ignition is still on.. works like a charm on mine.

If your car doesn't have an alarm already, and a turbo timer is $100 on it's own. I think it's a pretty damn good deal since you can find it online for around $215. I'm just still trying to find where (locally) that I can get it installed...

Hmm I've a turbo timer but I think I'll sell it and get one of those alarms with the ttimer installed. The best performance shop in my town here is also a certified clifford dealer. So I'm going there. But just wanted some opinions if spending so much on the top model rather than a conventional alarm is worth it. ;) Now I'd probably get those high end models for 500 installed.
