Hey guys, just wanna share my prob right now. I recently changed my 420a HG cause oil and coolant mixed up and oil is leaking. Also, I changes the TB and WP. Now after putting back all together and check everything into place. I finally finish and start the car. At first it idles fine til it reach its normal temparature, it started to smoke like white color, also it throws code. Can anyone help me what could be the thing that I've done wrong? I suspected i put the HG in the wrong way, I was confused when im putting the new one, cause the old one does not look the same as the new one. Old hg is not metal type and the new one is metal(felpro brand). Any help will greatly much appreciated.thanks

Did you deck the head? And yes it is posible to put these on wrong.

no i did not. planning to pull it out again and take it to the machine shop. thanks man!

do you guys have pics on how is the right position when putting a felpro HG? btw car did not overheated, its just the oil and antifreeze mixed up and some oil leak. Is it possible the head is warped? thanks again!

I think this is the one youre talking about. Just slapped her on the DD GS last week!

Notice the "felpro" in the left top corner.

If/when you pull the head again just put a machinist straight edge on the head (after cleaning it up) and check for warpage. The Chiltons actually shows you how I believe too. You could also check the block but since the head is aluminum, it has a better chance of warping before the block. Compare that measurement to the service limit and share it with your machinist.

Also, if your oil and coolant mixed, drain that oil and coolant as soon as possible. Your bottom end bearings do not like coolant as a lubricant.

Metal HG's require deck and head surfaces much smoother and straighter than paper/composite HG's.

always when your hg goes bad you need to check the head for warpage and you really need to take it to a machine shop and have it machined. take the head back off and take it to a machine shop. dont cut corners when it comes to stuff like this the extra money to do things right will save you a lot of time in the future.

this is how exactly i put the HG bro, here is the pics. After pulling the head this noon this what i've found out. Oil and antifreeze still mixing up.probaly the head needs resurface or i did not clean the deck thoroughly? And yeah I torque the bolts in order and spec.

are you sure the head gasket went bad in the first place. it also could be a bad valve seal. this also causes smoke.

yeah bro its the HG. I drained the rad and i saw the antifreeze mixed with oil. it could be bad valve seal too your right. but on the pics it looks HG right?

I do appreciate all your help!

You should have cleaned both surfaces with a gasket scrapper and checked the surfaces with a straight edge before installing.

A bad valve seal will not mix coolant and oil.

While you have the head off, inspect it for cracks, as well.

hes right valve seal wont mix coolant and oil. make sure both surfaces are clean before you put it back together scraped right down to the metal
