First of all, I have an AFC piggy backed onto my stock ECU.

Here is my setup.

:talon: 1992 Eagle Talon TSI :talon:
Ported and polished head with stainless steel valves, bronze guides, and 3 angle valve job.
HKS Cams 264 intake/272 exhaust
4G63T with Eagle Rods and +40 Wiseco 8.3:1 pistons.
Extreme Technologies Head gasket
ARP Head and Main studs
Small 16G turbo
2G MAS
Spearco FMIC with hardpipe kit
550cc Injectors
Walboro 255 lph fuel pump
S-AFC Feul Management system
Ported and polished O2 housing
3" Magnaflow Turbo Back Exhaust

 My question to you guys is.....

I normally run about 17psi of boost on 93 octane gas. How far can I go on a plain old AFC before I have to switch over to something like an AEM ECU to put enough fuel into the motor? I'm very worried about leaning out having a disaster. Someone told me I should switch to something else because the AFC doesn't really controll the feul flow properly.

Your input would be most helpfull. Thanks!

The SAFC II is actually very good. I will be using it as a piggy back on my 92 when its done that should dyno at about 400whp. Safc is a good and reletively cheap way to control fuel because it overrides the ecu's specs. You really shouldnt have any problems with it. My friend Jesse is going to be around 600whp or at least he is shooting for and he is trying to get his hands on an AEM EMS. Again not really necessary, but it does have its perks for being a standalone.

SAFC's are good tools as long as you know how to use them. If your not sure, its time to get your car in a shop or on a dyno and have someone who is good with it, help you set it up right.

bench racing is cool :thumb:

Afc is fine for what you want, tune it and you are fine.

You have upgraded fuel, and a nice FMIC....why are you so worried? You are being very conservative only running 17 psi on 93 octane with those mods, IMO. Buy a logger, I suspect you're still running quite rich...

My Buddy up in Canada Brad Davis made 570whp and went 11.11@131 with stock motor,ECU,SAFC, they are the cheapest and best tuning tool for a street DSM, hands down.

my dad's girlfriend's neighbor's roommate's lawyer's dealer's mother's co-worker's husband's carpool driver's tennis partner's mechanic has a customer who's 4th cousin read on the internet about some guy running 9s and making a million hp at the wheels on a SAFC. it was mad tyte yo.

just following the trend

now back to reality, assuming an eprom chip it'll go as far as you wish to go.. otherwise, it won't be going any further than 720cc injectors can take you

I guess I am just paranoid. I have put alot of time and money into this project and I just wanted to protect my investment. Thank you all for your input.

Nate from SBR just dynoed 639whp with an S-AFC and Stock ecu...

So you could go with it for as long as you want to.

he also had GM MAFT zeroed out, safc was the only adjustment tool, though. I just saw the car yesterday. Nate's taking that pile into the 8's LOL. They're getting Haltech for it I guess, and expecting at least another 50awhp. 40psi must be a fun car to drive.

HighPSI TSI guy you must be HIGH on crack, He asked how far a AFC could take him and a AFC will more than likely take him to his goal.

So to you HIGHPSI TSIGUY, lay off the crack and follow the Thread, You want to get pissy because I comented on how fast my friend went with a AFC.

Go play GT on you playstation, because real racing isn't cut out for you.

Neozer0, I have the same setup as you but, have stock 450's, 2gmass, safc2, and a 190 walbro rewired. fmic, 2.5" full piping, ported head, ported 16g, ported everything, 3" all the way back, 4" ram air intake, c/f clutch, I am having a hard time tuning low throttle with the safc2. Just likes to run lean or rich, cant seem to get it right. Mabey it will help when I get 660's and somthing better than the 2gmass? :talon:

On my brothers car with very similar setups the AFC2 works awsome, car made 358 whp, I would suggest tuning with a widband for the low and high, your drivability will improve greatly as well as throttle responce and fuel mileage.

Whats your base Fuel Pressure?
That may be off and screwing up your tune.

First off I would run a FPR if you are running a 255lph, They will have you running a 50-54psi base, this is way too high for the average 12sec DSM, I would run a base fuel pressure @44psi with the vac line hooked up, I think it will be like 41psi with out the vac line.

We have a Innovate wideband O2, these are a awesome deal for the money, and so far has worked flawlessly for us. There are others that a equaly as good but I think the Innovate is the best for the $$$. The new Dsport has a great wideband article and comparison.

You should actually loose fuel pressure when the vaccuum line is hooked up. Mine went from 43.5psi (stock) with the hose off to 38psi with it on.

Correct, At idle when you would be adjusting this you should have vacuum in the intake manifold something like 18 in hg which is about -9 psi. The regulator, if working, will track Fuel Pressure = Base Pressure + Manifold Pressure. So with the manifold signal hose connected the fuel pressure should be about 9 psi less than with it disconnected.
