My ECU in my 1g AWD was fried and burned a hole in itself, this caused my car not to start. I replaced the ECU with one from a FWD Turbo. The AFC still will not turn on, and the car will not start. I also replaced the MPI Relay, this did not fix the problem. It just cranks over, and I'm not talking about a healthy crank here, it sounds like its struggling to crank over. The MPI fuse is still intact, although that wouldn't explain the AFC not turning on. I re-soldered the AFC wires to make sure they were touching correctly also.

Can someone PLEASE help me. This is my daily driver, and I can't figure out why it will not work.

The ECU code from the one im trying to use dates as 6/90 - 92. Could the 6/90 be the problem or does that just mean its from 91?

Did you check the battery for proper voltage? Last major electrical event (BIG short that melted a hole in the fuse box) in my car suffered caused damage to the battery and it would no longer hold a proper charge...

Those are the build dates so a MD166260 came from either a '91 or '92 model year car.

Since the SAFC when connected using the usual wiring gets its power from the same feed the ECU does from the MPI relay I'd check to make sure you have 12v with the ignition on at the ECU pins 102 and 107. If you do then you may have a SAFC problem. If you don't you need to make sure the MPI relay has power and turns on when you ground pin 8.

Ok I got the car to start and the AFC to work. The ECU i was trying before was bad as well.
Now I have a whole new set of problems. The car idles like crap, I haven't even tried to drive it. The tach shows the car idling at about 120 rpms, and is wayyyy off when I rev it up. The AFC shows the correct rpms. The car also vibrates a ton, you can see it vibrating back and forth on the motor mounts just idling at 750 its so bad. I am showing no codes on the logger, but when i tested the injectors it bogged and/or stalled when i turned off injectors 1 and 4, but not 2 and 3. Does this mean it is running on 2 cylinders?

Any more help would be appreciated. Thanks

It would seem that way. Can't say if it's injectors or spark at this point.

I replaced the coil pack and transistor and the car worked fine (Aside from the plugs being fouled from cranking the motor so much.)

So the solution to my first problem was an MPI Relay, and a new ECU. The second, a coil pack, transistor, new plugs and wires.

Thanks for the help.
