AEM UEGO Question

So, just want to make sure I'm getting this right...

AEM Wideband with DSMLink.

I need to keep my stock Front O2 sensor. Right?

I should place the provided bung after the first bend of the DP. Right?

I use one of the 0-5v outputs to the EGR input of the ECU. Right?

Now for the other questions...

Why keep both sensors? Doesn't it defeat the purpose?
Can I just replace the front O2 with the AEM Wideband or does it not simulate narrowband?
Removing the EGR input...how does that effect the ECU adjustments?

Thanks in advance! Newly installed DSMLink can't wait to start ine tuning!
 
Keep the front o2 and place the bung 36" downstream from the turbo.

And removing the EGR effects nothing and just lets you log the wideband through dsmlink.
 
Thanks...now the other thing I want to clarify is this:

If the stock Front O2 sensor is left in the equation, does it not control the A/F ration for the ECU? IF so, the wideband is strictly for tuning purposes and has nothing to do with the adjusting of the A/F ratio correct?

Not really sure of exactly what your asking. Are you asking if the ECU reads from the WB and adjusts the fuel? If so, the answer is no. The WB is used at WOT. Do a third gear pull from 3k-7k rpm's. Use the fuel sliders in DSMlink to get the A/F ratio via the WB to 11/1 a/f w/ no knock on pump gas.
Is that what you were asking, or did I misunderstand your question?
 
Sorta yeah. Pay attention to the WB at WOT.
Also, make sure the sensor is callibrated before you install it into the exhaust... I have a different brand WB and have never used the AEM one, but I would assume it works the same as the others as far as 02 callibration. If I'm wrong another member that has the AEM can chime in here.
 
Don't worry about the questions. I'm sure I had a lot when I first got mine too. You gotta learn somehow..

Once again the AEM may differ from the one that I have. but with mine there was a program I downloaded from the WB companies website that auto callibrates it.

Someone that ownes a AEM will have to answer this question. I don't own that brand so I don't really know. I have a techedge WB and their website has the program for download.
 
The wide band operates all the time as would any O2 sensor. The difference is that your ECU uses the front NB O2 for closed loop fuel trim calculations, in open loop (WOT) the front NB O2 sensor is not used for fuel calculations, that's why you still have to have the front O2 in place.

However, just to confuse you further, some WB sensors have the ability to "simulate" a narrow band signal. Conceivably you could place the WB in the front location, use the "simulated" NB value for closed loop operation and log the WB for tuning. But that scenario is not really recommended as it just gets too hot that close to the turbo and will shorten the life of the WB sensor.

With a WB O2 sensor you're tuning your open loop (WOT) characteristics based on readings (logs) from the WB O2.

And there is really no calibration required....it's already done from the factory or you will get software for it. What was probably meant is that with DSMLink you have to "pick" which WB sensor you use because each manufacturer has different values to derive the same information. Inside Link you just choose the WB sensor that you're using and you'll be fine.

On mine I use the rear O2 for the WB input and the MDP for the GM 3.3BAR MAP input. My WB is after the flex section of the DP.
 
Just stick the wideband in the rear 02 sensor bung and log with dsmlink using the rear 02 sensor input and just uncheck the rear 02 sensor check engine light with dsmlink :)
