I just bought a 1998 GSX today and took it for a spin on the freeway. It came with an AEM Tru Boost hooked up as well. After my initial 1-4 gear pull, the outside ring lights started blinking red and would not stop. It was still reading vaccuum but the boost didn't seem to read right. Also when I let off the gas after a little boost pull I hear a loud rattling/ticking/knocking that sounds like it's coming from under the car kinda. I don't think it's a heat shield cause it doesn't look loose at all and doesn't move when poked at with the broom. Any ideas on either problem? Thanks in advance!

So did the car build any boost at all? As for the rattling/ticking, gonna be hard to tell where it is while your in the car you need to find a way to locate that to further help you any because it could be hundreds of things haha. Oh and did you test drive the car before you bought it or check anything? Do a BLT to! Can never be to sure.

Yes it did. It boosts and pulls very well. But the boost number doesn't seem right. I think it might be reading something else. I test drove it and heard the noise while slowing down with no throttle but can't seem to pinpoint it. Was wonder if the boost solenoid could be that loud?

Edit: So my gauge hasn't done the red blinking light of death today so i'm slightly confused on that. It also only reads up to about 7psi then stops reading numbers and starts reading decimals at which point i let off the throttle and it reads negative digits which is vac and makes the grinding noise. that noise also only happens in gear while slowing down with no throttle. possibly something transmission related?

anybody else have any kind of reply? be it help, flaming, opinions, anything? kind of lost and need some insight here. can't find anything on the gauge doing this.

So you did a boost leak test and all is good? The blinking red is just the warning light the previous owner had set. All the tuning for the gauge is done on the interface. Did you mess with the settings? Make sure the wastegate crack pressure is set right. I believe if the solinoid was bad it would say so on the gauge.

okay thanks for that explanation. i was leaning towards it being a warning but wasn't sure. i haven't boost leak tested yet as i haven't had the time off work. took a look at some vac hoses and some are cracking/splitting but my vac reads good so i'm not sure about that. replacing them all this weekend then doing a test to see if anything has changed.

read this

If you are seeing decimals, it is probably reading in bar not psi. The red flashing is an overboost condition which you can be set.

thanks for that link. i'll read into and see if i can get more in depth with it since i have the weekend off to play with it.

Just let me know how it goes. The gauge is hard to work with.

i'm going to read the link above and finish the 4 part youtube videos on the gauge and see if i can learn to work it properly. i'll also do a boost leak test as well. i'm going to replace the cracked and splitting hoses i found and see what happens.

Also here is the diagram to go through the options and settings.

Replacing the hoses is a must. A blt would always be a good idea. The gauge is very confusing at first. I had to watch the video multiple times. But the important part is the wastegate crack pressure.

replaced hoses... car boosts to 16psi strong all day through gears. stick side mount not enough for it i'm thinking...

so i replaces the hoses... car boosts to 16psi and holds all day. i don't think the stock side mount is enough for it. car started getting pretty hot yesterday...

replaced hoses and it holds 17lbs of boost all day long. still can't determine that noise when slowing down in gear though...

can a mod close this thread as it seems replies don't make it onto the forum anymore for some reason? thanks.
