Just wondering what would be the best clutch for the fwd Laser. It is daily driven but does see the track on Friday nights.

I have the stock original clutch with 170K miles, and i launch at 3500rpms for shits and grins about 4 to 5 times a week.

Great choice with the 2600:thumb:

I had the 2100 and now have the 2600 - the difference will def bring a smile when your driving - along with a little lower leg strain - but you get used to it.

(I am awd tho)

actually i have used both. I think the object of this site is to help people i could be wrong though

Don't get me wrong now, I do launch from time to time when I break the law :sneaky: but I try to keep my car as reliable as the other guy because it is a DD. I'm very pleased to know that I have enough power at my feet to beat alot of cars out there when I want to.:thumb: I'll eventually upgrade to the 2600 soon though.

How long did your transmission last with the 2600?

What is going on guys? I am in the same position that you are in with choosing a new clutch. Only difference is, is that I have tried all three of those clutches. The 2100 is able to hold a little more clamp load the the stock. On a front wheel drive tranny the max without a twin plate set up is the 2600. The 2900 will kill your tranny, and possiblily cause crankwalk quickly.
Alot of guys are always saying that Shep is using a Act clutch. Don't be fooled by the stickers. A reliable source says that he using another brand.
You must determine what you are going to do with your car, and go from there. If you are only going street, go with something simple. High horsepower, use a multi layer disc.
I hope that this helps you out.

Not sure if I would have ever made the T-case statment.

I run 2600 with street disc in most of my cars. Have ran a few 2900.

The only time I have had T-case and ctr diff problems is with a 2100 and a 6 puck. I have broken a few T-case from wheel hop and porposing due to a welded diff.

AWD that is runing in the 12s all the time and likes to drag race needs a 2600 with street disc.

I have now found the stock clutch holds better than some 2100's. The ACT spec is +/- 10% so it is easy to get a clutch that does not hold.

If Shep was using something other than ACT they wouldn't be sponsoring him.

I feel the 2600 and street disc is the best launching combo for our cars. Enough slip but will hold the power. I could not tell much of a difference from the 2600-2900.

Drivers kill trannys not clutches.

I went 10.9@129 a few times last year on a 2600 with a street disc and a stock ctr diff.

I broke 4 ctr diffs with my 6 puck and have only broken 1 ctr diff in 3 years with being over 2sec faster and many more passes. I do close to 300 passes pre year.

In late 2004, I was at the PRI show in Indy. I personally stood in the ACT booth, six feet from Shep, and talked to one of the ACT reps discussing the 2900 clutch and how they Sponsor John by sending him a couple every year. He does, in fact, run a 2900.

Keep in mind this was 1.5 years ago. He may have changed clutches when he changed trannys.

Check out the middle of the page. It has a good comparison to the clutches.

http://www.roadraceengineering.com/ecldrivetrain.htm

I know Centerforce wasn't mentioned originally as an option, but it's what I've use for the last 3years and I have no complaints. I think it would be a good clutch in between the 2100 and 2600, like the website shows.

It's time now for a new clutch so I'm going to give the 2600 a try because I now have a more powerful setup than before and plan on going to the track with it.

But for a DD and ocasional launches around town (some repeatedly), the Centerforce was great.

I just recently installed the 2600 kit and at first it felt really heavy but I was actually very surprised with how quickly I got used to it. I'm not transmission genius and I'm not sure about how much wear it will cause on transmission components, but I do have functioning legs and can tell you that a 2600 isn't a pain for DD.

I know you said you're getting the 2600, but that other guy is still deciding so I'll throw my 2 cents in anyway.

I think for a FWD at both of your power levels a 2100 is just fine. My 2100 lasted for 3 years and ~45,000 miles. Then the clutch fork broke. The 2100 is sitting in my garage only 50-60% worn. My car was in the 200-230whp range for most of that time and I launch as often as anyone that wants to keep there DD in one peice would.

While the clutch fork was being replaced I put in a new 2600 and an XACT flywheel. It makes me feel special that no one else can even get my car moving, but even I stall it on occasion and its very frustrating in extended traffic or hill starts. There's a difference between what some people on here call a "daily driver" when they have another car, but others of us are actually stuck with only THIS car to drive everywhere. I hate driving my car, and its entirely due to that clutch/flywheel combo.

I got a 2600 because I'm planning for 350awhp by the end of the summer. If you're staying close to your current power, go for a 2100 (not to mention you're FWD). Its just fine as long as you aren't at the track every week. Keep in mind, they both come with the SAME clutch disk. Either disk will burn up easily if not launched correctly. The clamping force of the plate will do nothing to help that. No need to put unnessesary strain on the engine, driveline, your leg, and your patience.

I have the exact same clutch setup as you and mine is also a true daily driver, it's my only car. Curious though, do you have to do a lot of city driving? You say you don't like driving it and I guess thinking about it, it would suck to be in a lot of stop and go traffic. It's not too bad where I live but I definitely get my fair share of it. I really don't mind driving with this setup though. As far as driving my car in let's say Washington D.C. ........... that would definitely suck.

My ride to work is reasonably short, that's the only thing that makes it tolerable. Its completely city streets and I have to stop for each of the 8 lights on the way there at least twice.

My girlfriend lives about 5 miles down the most constantly busy stretch of road in my area. It can take up to 20-30 minutes to get to her house because of the traffic, lights, and stupid drivers. And I'm usually angry by the 3rd mile.

Getting to my local DSM shop involves driving through the capital city (one side to the other), usually at rush hour because of my working hours.

The rest of my family lives out on twisty, hilly, stop sign infested back woods roads. That involves LOTS of up and down shifts.

Add to all that the fact that NO WHERE in this state is flat, which means most of my starts are on some degree of hill.

But yea, on the highway that clutch/flywheel is fine.:thumb: ROFL

Other than that, I've stalled the car 2 times in the last month. I can't drive it well when I'm very tired, very hungery, not feeling well, hell even if I'm upset enough. I simply can't drive it smooth if I don't have 100% concentration. The worse I drive it, the more angry I get until I just start abusing it. And if someone ever needs to drive the car for me, I'm SOL.

I went from a stock clutch to a ACT 2100 cause I made the ever so common mistake of thinking that I wouldn't be taking my car very far, just a few bolt ons. My 2100 never grabbed very hard, but I never beat on it. It lasted for one launch at the track. I launched it at around 4k just to get a feel for it, railed on it then hit second like a hoe that was trying to steal money and the clutch let loose. It still drives, but I'm afraid to pin it in first. The ACT 2600 with a Fidanza is going in soon hopefully. I already removed the slave cylinder resrictor and put on a SS clutch line that bypassed the FCU. So it'll grab harder than an Ethiopian on a Dunkin Donut box baby.

Eeeoowwwwwwww.....that doesn't sound like very fun driving conditions, it would also make me very frustrated. For the most part here, it sounds a lot more rural than where you are. There's one part around here that gets pretty bad, and if I ever get stuck in it, I will tend to "drive like an idiot" as the old ladies like to say. So yes, a 2600 in the city, or heavy stop and go traffic will make you go crazy. Don't worry though, you'll be better for it. :)
