First off i have a 99 eclipse automatic and i dont know if all eclipses n/t are real slow or if my car is messed up. I have cold air intake and magnaflow exhaust. And when im at a stop light for instance, light turns green i accelerate as normal, and the exhaust sounds so loud that it sounds like a fast car, but then the cars next to me outrun my car and this is all the time, ive seen shitty cars, minivans, broke down cars always outrunning me and my car is so damn loud with the exhaust that it makes it look real shitty. Also if i push the pedal real hard, the sound gets even louder from exhaust that the car shakes a bit from the noise, and im still behind the cars :notgood:

ive been to mechanics but they say the car is fine, is there some sort of tests i can do, ive searched everywhere and kind find anything i only read stuff about turbo cars, which doesnt help me. And i cant find anything under the hood cause i dont know much heh.

Someone please help :)

naw it doesnt sputter or nothing it only shakes cause of the super loud noise LOL. what am i supposed to look for when i check plugs and wires? if i look at my engine it looks normal to me, but i dont know anythin bout how its supposed to be.

also what exactly is a compression test? and can i do it myself or do i take it to a mechanic and ask them to do that?

thanks

A compression test involves sticking an apparatus in your spark plug hole to test compression. For plugs and wires, there are many different things. When is the last time you replaced your plugs and wires? If you bend your plug wires and they hold their shape, that means its time for new ones. On the plugs, if they are white and ashy looking, your lean. If they are black, possibly wet its rich. The ideal is a clean, good looking surface. Do you have any check engine lights? If so, how does the light act? Does it come and go? When is the last time you changed your 02 sensors? Now, when you rev your car, does it smoke at all? Puffing blue or black? When you get high into the rpms, does it start to die off, or is it just all the time? What I would do is this:
start the engine..... Let it idle with your hood open. Carefully pull off one plug wire at a time as the car is idling. Look for any arcing over. But, the biggest point is this. When you are pulling off the wires, the engine should really die down and become rough. If you pull off a wire, and the engine does nothing, that is your problem area. That is my best advice, and I hope it helps.

Hmm seems hard as i dont know anything about cars LOL, but ill check tomorrow. Also i havnt done anything to the car since i just got it over the summer at 68k miles now at 70k. i dont know if timing belt and all that stuff were changed or not, maybe thats the prob? and i did change front and rear o2 sensors like 2 months ago and it didnt make a difference. although when i did do an oil change when i first got the car, it started leaking oil and it never did before they said it was a messed up filter, and i never had the chance to change it, it still leaks but not as much.

No offense or anything, but non-turbo eclipses aren't that fast. But yeah, somethin is wrong when you're gettin passed by mini vans. You should really get to changin that filter though. If you really want your car to last, you should service it when it needs to be serviced. And since you don't know very much about cars, you should take your car to somebody that knows how to do a compression test. But a new set of plugs and wires couldn't hurt anything. You might also want to check if your WOT is actually at 100%. And I really doubt this, but since your exhaust is so loud, you might not notice it, but your transmission may be slipping.

you are probally out of oil if it has been leaking for 2k miles and you have not changed it. Check that out and let us know

Its been leaking oil from the filter, but for some reason its still good on oil i dont know why, im going to take it for an oil change anyways.

one question i was going to check spark plugs, but i tried pulling on them and they didnt come off, should i just pull harder or what? also when you say plugs/wires do u mean spark plugs? or some other plugs/wires?

I think you should take the car to a mechanic for a tune up.

its so hard finding a good mechanic over here, so today i went to mitsu dealer near my house and i was going to do the oil change there 28 bucks for the reg oil and 78 bucks for synthetic mobile 1.... i was like damnnnn, but if i do the oil change he will check the whole car for me for free its called "29 point service" or something like that, he said he checks the whole engine to see if there are any probs and such. :D

so today i went to mitsu dealer and they did the oil change and checked the car for probs. The oil change made a good difference cause car sounds alot better than before. And they found no problems on engine, everything was good except it was time for new timing belt and just for timing belt change they charge 380 dollars it also needed a balance shaft belt which was 89 dollars and waterpump 260 dollars. ALOT OF MONEY! Im going to buy the parts separetly online. i went to ongreenperformance.com and they had timing belt kit with balance shaft and tensioner for 100 dollars, but they say its for 4g63 engine. could that fit in my 420a? or does someone know of a good site for 420a parts?

i dont think anything is wrong with your car, i have a 96 talon n/t auto, and that thing is a dog. the car has no power, my old winter beater 85 sunbird was faster. it might actually feel a lot torquier if it was a stick, but the auto has no power.
