I want to delete my abs. Now I've seen the kit thats about $220 with braided lines and all parts. Is there a kit out there that uses hard lines instead? Does any one have a walk through of doing it and some pics. I just don't feel like spending that much money when I can easily bend some lines my self.

The easiest way is to go to a salvage yards and get the lines from a car that doesn't have abs. You will need the non abs proportioning valve also. I am with you though, i would rather bent steel lines than use an expensive ss line kit. The steel lines will be safer in my opinion. There is nothing to fail but a piece of metal tube.

I see you have a 1g, but Id assume they are pretty similar. Heres what I did with my 2g last month.

notice the gaudy lines running to the abs box. Gross!

I took the two lines running to each front wheels off later.

While taking the lines out I needed to bend them a bit and they needed a little persuasion to get back into place, but if you keep all of the clamps it should be alright. Now, like I said I know mine is a 2g and yours is a 1g, it should be fairly similar. If I were you I would definitely not spend 200+ dollars on the kit. Go to a salvage yard and find a doner for about 20 bucks probably. Hope this helps.

ABS system was already in shotty shape. sensor wires cut, only 1 side had abs ring. besides off all my cars only 1 had abs and that was my 04 SRT4 neon so I'm good with out it.

Get lines and the valve from a junk yard, or get new hard lines from a parts store and bend them yourself. $200 for a kit which has hoses instead of piping is pointless. Hoses are for nothing more than absorbing movement.

I just did this, and went to a local hydraulics shop and got the fittings and braided lines for $95, and I had a non abs prop valve I got from a local salvage yard for $5.

Moto, that link was super perfect man. Thanks. The pics and his description was exactly to the T what I was looking for. We should have that write up put in our tech section here!! :thumb:

i just did this junkyard mod to my galant and added ss brake lines to the calipers to finish the project.
the pedal is MUCH firmer, and engine bay is wide open now.
easy project. bleeding everything is the worst part. or undoing the old stuck #10 hex brake fittings. that sucks too.
the abs unit weighs 20 pounds. that's more than the rear seat and door panels weigh.
it is also easyer to change brake fluid now and requires less fluid = more weight savings.
i like the solid pedal and not worrying about having a disconnected but not removed abs system on the car.

I just did this last summer in my 1g awd and it wasn't that bad of a job. The hardest part for me was getting the lines threaded into the proportioning valve and figuring out which lines to connect first. I used this for a reference although it is gvr4 its pretty much all you need to know.

ABS DELETE

I picked up the valve all the lines in the classifieds for like $70 shipped. I had to remove mine to run my short route fmic piping but I love the nice firm feel of the brake pedal now and I feel like the brakes grab much harder now.

newbie question why would you want to get rid of the abs, and good job on the car crash it looks great.

Having ABS on my Mazda 6 has saved me 2 times. Having it period makes me lose the ability to drive a car without ABS properly. So, yea, good thing to remove it if you want.

No ABS system in the world can out perform the right foot of a truly experienced driver. :hellyeah:

Drivers using ABS and TCS among other stupid fancy things are trully at a disadvantage. They dont have to master the difficult pedal technuiqe of mashin on the brakes right at that sweet spot/thresh hold of lockin 'em up. Not to mention the pedal skills on the throttle...

The only downside to the hard lines, is you have to pull the motor to get the old lines out and new lines in. You can make your own SS kit for cheaper than the other kits out there.

I made my own SS kit, only cost me about $80-100 including the fittings, lines and non abs prop valve.

Boneheadperformance.com makes lines to legnth, and thats what I did.

Probably true with systems available in the '80's and '90's, but not categorically true anymore.

Not true, driver skill is still better than the on board vehicle dynamics used today in the 21st century. NOT everyone has the skills, but a select few do. P#ssys use traction control and ABS. Wanna run the down hill on your local mountain pass and see your "ABS" system not do any magic for you???

Oh, and another comment, you do not have to remove the engine to do this swap, sure it would be easier, but its not THE ONLY WAY. I swapped mine the correct method with engine in car the whole time so who knew...

Has anyone used an aftermarket valve? like this one
Wilwood Combination Proportioning Valve - JEGS

looks like the control would be good for a track day,
figure I coud do the same method but have control over the either the front or the back?

Also anyone know of any other valves that would work than the factory ones.
Thanks for the help.
Travis
