As of now, I am near 2000 kms on a fresh motor. Arias Pistons, Eagle Rods, head rebuilt to factory specs, crank slightly shaven...
So far, the motor runs BEAUTIFULLY... but I am getting anxious. As a slight insurance during the break-in period, we used one crappy rubber clamp on the crappy mock-up intercooler piping, that way it would pop off it I tried to put any boost through it... (It'll blow at about 4psi)
I plan on welding up some nice polished aluminum piping in the next week or two, and starting to up the boost, but I had a few quick questions.
First is to do with the timing... I've got some adjustable cam gears (ONSOKU), and as of right now there is no timing advance/retard. I'm SLIGHTLY reluctant to keep those gears on there, but that's a whole other issue. So far, they seem legit. Now, as I turn up the boost, do you think I should be doing anything with the timing? I'm looking to just start with 10psi... then sit between 15 and 20 for daily driving... and when I'm feeling frisky, push it between 25-30. I've got a Garrett Gt35R, btw... so hitting 30 psi will be more than doable.
Second has to do with fuel. I've got somebody swearing that I shouldn't go much higher than 10psi without doing something different. Either much much higher octane, or methanol injection... just something else. I'd like to tune everything on pump gas, if possible... How high have people gone with their turbo PSI on pump gas without issue?
Third, the same guy is insisting that I should be running an A/F ratio of around 10.5 under load. Now, if I recall correctly from researching this matter around here last summer, a lot of you guys were saying around 12.7 for our cars?

Arias Pistons, Eagle Rods, Garrett GT35R turbo, S-AFCII controller, AEM digital boost gauge/controller, custom downpipe, Thermal full exhaust, Turbonetics Deltagate MarkII wastegate, factory BOV, Fidanza flywheel, ACT 6-puck race clutch, ACT pressure plate... I'm sure there's more, but I'm tired.
