I'm about to buy a 2g DSM of any type.

I was about to buy a talon TSI AWD about 3 weeks ago, a friend told me not to buy it. he claims he heard whore storries, and claimed there was a web site that had them on it.

He did not give me the web site he forgot. anyway, this was a list problems Something about tranys falling from bottom of the car while driving. heres so more.

Bumpers falling off while driving........

Something aobut chasies busting or breaking.

Hard to find pats for them now...............

I told him this is the same as an Eclipse GSX, and to my understanding they have the same motor the 4g63t and how would it be hard to find parts for these........

Now I think what he heard or saw, was related to the ESI, b/c it's a cheaper modle, just like the eclipse GS and Rs.

I really want a DSM and I have done countless hours of Research for the corect type, I have never come across anything that says the Talon is a horrible car.

For all you talon owners out there can you clear this up for me.

B/c to be honest I think my friend is B/s me.

Thanks alot.

P  eace

I have yet to hear any stories about trannies and stuff falling out. Sure it may happen but it's not a plague or anything like that. And whatever he heard was probably a single situation and doesn't relate to ALL DSM's. What does your friend drive?? Take it from people who drive the cars, they aren't that bad. Every car has it's days.

Hey guys thanks for the input, I had an idea he was b/s me.

I think I'm about to buy my first DSM, and I'm fully prepared.

One question is that I have are parts hard to find for this car? I mean there the same as an eclipse. but still that question remains in my head.

and if you have any storries of something that happend to your talon that was bad say water pump ect.... I know crank walk is a big problem.

I like to know these things so I know what I'm getting into.

Thanks a ton guys this has really helped.

Peace.

Water pump is due around 100k, and the timing belt should be changed every 50-60k. Be good to it, and it will be good to you, just like any other car.

I think everyone will agree, that with DSM's you will trade reliability for performance.

Parts are not hard to find at all.

I buy all my "talon" parts at the mitsu dealership.

Sorry for the rant below but.............

As said above, your friend is a moron about DSM's as are about 64.3% of
people out there (very scientific). These percentages are the people who tell
me eagle made cheap *insert part here* and i should of gotten an eclipse. There
also the same douches who say eclipses are faster and i should get headers and
a computer. This "disease" can strike even those who you think would know better.
As in your supposedly smart instructor in your automotive class who says i should of
brought an eclipse because talons have bad transmissions. I corrected him by saying
both Eclipses AND Talons have bad transmissions :p

There the exact same car as you know. I dont even know the difference anymore,, when i see the word talon i read eclipse and viceversa.

He may have been thinking (to stretch the definition) of this site:
http://www.deadeclipse.com/
which is mostly about 3Gs.

DSMs are getting cheap, and old. Kids and the careless are quietly killing them off.

DSMs are DSMs. Talon and Eclipse are only cosmetic distinctions. Because "Eagle" is an orphan, the market has dropped their price by another 30% or so compared to the Eclipse, putting it into the running for being one of the greatest bargains of the new century.

I've owned 3 different Eagle talons and each of them have had their problems but I would never give up owning a DSM. They are well worth the maintence required to keep them in good shape. :talon: :thumb:

Yea your friend is a moron. Mechanically, they are exactly the same. Exteriorwise, they have differences in the bumpers, lights, and sideskirts. And interior-wise, the eagle logo on the steering wheel, and thats about it. I've been on this board for almost a year now (next month :thumb: :thumb: ) and I've never once heard of a tranny falling out of a DSM. But I have heard it happening to other cars.

MY TRANNY FELL OUT!!!,,,
no, actually it was my floorboard after the welds on the intake mainfold gave out :p

Thats only cause he had enough NOS to blow himself up. Two of the big bottles.

From now on you are not allowed to get any info from your friend. If he tells you soemthing filter it out and look it up here. he is one of the people that made F&F as big as it is.

Don't rely on that guy for any DSM information. Front Bumpers falling off? If anything they are a pain in the ass to get off.

The chasis doesn't break, but in a AWD vehicle be prepared if you frequently launch it for suspension components to go out.

Its not hard to find parts for them, however some of them are manufacturer only items.

If I had to honestly choose between a TSiAWD and a GSX, I would take the Talon, I think they are more rare plus I think they look better.

i had a 92 talon n/t auto. the thing broke down on me a ton. went through 2 trannies, timing belt, water pump, radiator blew, car ran like crap. I had the car for 2 years. I believe that 100% of the problems were because of ME not because they aren't reliable. I constantly took the car to redline, shifted through the gears (i had an auto), and just drove insane. My fiancee's father is a mopar mechanic and doesn't want me to get another one because he himself says they are unreliable. I believe in the treat it right and it will treat you right statement. I don't give a F*ck what anybody says about dsm's. i am hopefully getting a loan tomorrow for a 95 tsi awd and i am totally confident that it will work out. Even if the car constantly breaks down, i will fix it then drive it. i am by dsm 100% of the way. I dare ya, break down on me. I will fix her. I WANT TURBO and i dont care about what anyone else says :talon: :dsm: :laser:

Well yah but if you're getting a turbo talon its actually a mitsu motor.
So maybe the mopar guy needs to realize chrysler aint the only one
who knows how to make unreliable cars. :D

Well if you really look at it, you'll notice turbocharged vehicles don't seem to be as reliable as other cars...the setup is more complex which means more stuff can go wrong. Throw AWD in and you have even more stuff to break.

Honestly, I think DSMs are more reliable than a lot of the other turbocharged vehicles out there.
