A warranty that Voids it self?

It is unlikely that the police will do anything since this is a civil matter. If they do show up tell them that he forced you to sign the paper before allowing you to properly inspect the engine. Tell them that upon inspection, you found that the engine is not in a working condition and you are consulting another engine builder on what course of action is needed before this problem is corrected. Also let them know that under California law, a written estimate is required. Tell the police that despite numerous requests the current builder refused to put an estimate in writing and gave you an estimate in the amount of $X. Also tell them that the price raised from $X to $Y without first getting consent of the additional charges.

I hope you took pictures of the "metal shavings" inside the motor. This is your best case.

K so basically just as I thought, show them the evidence haha.

I haven't even touched the motor yet after seeing the shavings initially and have taken pictures. I am waiting to get bolts to get her on an engine stand to get some better pictures before I start the tear down to see what other damages there are :|

Just to close this thread after contacting BAR here is the first thing they responded with.

"DM Autosalon, the shop I have been dealing with, doesn't even show being registered to have their Automotive Repair License and they are not registered with the state of california."

So more or less their ridiculous amounts of screw ups I did not have to pay for.

But along with that they will be getting a $5000 fine for not being registered and are open to claims for all the work he has done for the past year through his shop.

Guess karma does work out in the end.

Thanks again to everyone for the help btw.

a good honest machinist is an invaluable thing to have and will work with you

as for the word "warranty" well your title explains everyone i've ever een period. Something to do with ownin the damn product and taking it off the property where it was bought pretty much voids most warranties.. I go tmy warranty voided on my eclipse when it was new becuase i had a tire on that was 5mm different than OEM... all they need is ANY ewxcuse they can come up with and warranty turns into "threw your money away" I say never count on them, only consider what you can garauntee or trust in some one to provide you in means of help based on personal relationships with seller/machinist, other than that a warranty just makes you feel good

ROFL

Ain't karma a bi***? I love when shitheads get what they deserve, especially when it is their own doing.

A good machinist won't mind if you look at the shop, see their work while they're working, and ensure you are comfortable that they can do the work you need done or refer you to someone who can. THAT is a good machine shop. It should be fairly clean and organized, the guys should be able to understand engine terminology and performance modifications without explanation, and they damn sure better give you a good estimate bill of work needed to do what you asked BEFORE they do anything. At least now you know what you don't want in a machine shop...

Yea and honestly the representative from the BAR was very informative, one of the few things I am honestly happy my tax money some how goes to.

And honestly I never knew people would ask to do that but its very good to know.
