OK the title is just to get you here. I have a 97 GS. Untill my next turbo install starts on it I need some type of upgrade. Now I feel as though my car has power but it needs to be found. It has 115k on the engine and it feels like its not getting all the power where it should. I think my injectors may be messed up. It has a exhaust and cold air on it now. Soon the resinator will be taken out and a straight pipe will replace it. It was a california resinator too so could this be restricting exhaust out put and therfor not putting in enough fuel as it should. ALso I will be in 4th gear coming off a off-ramp and to accell my peddle needs to be almost at WOT. What are some things I should check for.

Now I dont know to much on fuel systems but I have 450 in jectors and a 190 fuel pump. Can I put these in and see a change in power before I start the turbo kit. If so when I go to take my stock injectors out will I have to worry about fuel leaking out. Same with the fuel pump. I dont want to pull a line off and have gas leak around my engine bay or back seat. I dont care about small stuff because I know they will have a little in them already. Will I also need to bleed the lines for the fuel pump and injectors. I just want to take the old ones out and put in the 450's. I want to take my old fuel pump and replace it with the 190lph. Will this need line bleeding or can I take the old one off and put the new one on and just try starting my car and if it needs to suck gas in keep the key turned. Would this damage my car?

You can easily check the compression yourself.. It's as simple as removing the spark plugs and screwing in the compression gauge into each cylinder one by one.. Crank the car over about 3 revs, where the needle stays is your compression.. Hit the little valve dump button to let the air out and do it again if you want to make sure.. You can buy a compression guage at any automotive store, or rent one from most..

BTW; Turbo insurance was quoted to me for $70 more a month for me when I bought my car, so that's my logic on that..

I completely agree that making the car is half the fun. If its what you want to do, props to you. Also agree that seafoam is the way to go. I was losing performance in my Celica and seafoam brought it right back up to par.

Plus come on, the smoking from all the crap getting cleaned out is cool to watch, LOL :sneaky:

However, you also said that affording a GS-T or GS-X is out of the question...but thats not really true if you're willing to go with a 1st gen. If your car is in good condition, you can make enough off of it to buy a 1st gen TSi or GS-T. I found a nice '91 Talon TSi FWD for $3,000. Runs like a champ, pulls plenty hard. It's all a matter of what you want, though.

If fuel was the only reason why a car is limited in power, there wouldn't be a need for a turbo. A car is never going to have a maxxed out fuel system from the factory.

Just sell the car and buy a GSX. Problem solved.

Yeah, right! Like it is that simple and easy! GSX's are waiting in line to be traded for GS's all day, every day!:D Well, maybe somewhere else but not where I live!;)

hahaha i second that brotha. Now the man who baught the TSI FWD. I thought the name TSI automatically meant it was AWD. If i knew you could get a TSI thats turbo i could have baught one for 1200 with mods. He said it came like that and i didnt beleive him so i didnt go for it. I rather lose out of a good deal then be stuck with no money and a hunk of junk. Now a fwd turbo car is very expensive to insure isnt it? There is absolutly NO 1gs around here. Not even in the junklyard. Its very weird but yeh so there you go guys and thanks for the info guys you help a sXXt load

Is the compression tester a tube with a gauge by any chance is it

Yep, it's a tube that screws into a spark plug hole, (will have adapters for every possible thread) with a guage on top.. It looks like a fuel pressure guage, but with bigger hose, and no fuel dump line..

*Another reason to stay with a 420a, is crankwalk is not in the owners vocabulary..*
