OK the title is just to get you here. I have a 97 GS. Untill my next turbo install starts on it I need some type of upgrade. Now I feel as though my car has power but it needs to be found. It has 115k on the engine and it feels like its not getting all the power where it should. I think my injectors may be messed up. It has a exhaust and cold air on it now. Soon the resinator will be taken out and a straight pipe will replace it. It was a california resinator too so could this be restricting exhaust out put and therfor not putting in enough fuel as it should. ALso I will be in 4th gear coming off a off-ramp and to accell my peddle needs to be almost at WOT. What are some things I should check for.

Now I dont know to much on fuel systems but I have 450 in jectors and a 190 fuel pump. Can I put these in and see a change in power before I start the turbo kit. If so when I go to take my stock injectors out will I have to worry about fuel leaking out. Same with the fuel pump. I dont want to pull a line off and have gas leak around my engine bay or back seat. I dont care about small stuff because I know they will have a little in them already. Will I also need to bleed the lines for the fuel pump and injectors. I just want to take the old ones out and put in the 450's. I want to take my old fuel pump and replace it with the 190lph. Will this need line bleeding or can I take the old one off and put the new one on and just try starting my car and if it needs to suck gas in keep the key turned. Would this damage my car?

dude, honestly, you should just replace your entire engine with a 6-bolt 4G63T and turn it into a GST, a motor with that many miles on it really isnt worth upgrading with a turbo kit at all, and you do not need the 190 fuel pump and injectors with your stock motor, sounds like it needs a tune up, try some seafoam, I bet that will help you a lot as far as the power loss issue goes.

as long as you make sure it can run well the way it is then it is okay to mod whatever you want...just make sure nothing it seriously wrong with it before dumping mucho money's into it

my engine has 147k on it and I will tubo it within the year hopefully, although I'll redo the head and bottom end real nice to make sure it can take it first...but look at the 147k beast of a monster now...

ya, it was a joke, I was basically telling him that from the sounds of it his motor needs a good fixin to make it run like it should, basically he should just buy a GST or GSX or rebuild his motor before throwin a turbo on it. Or, if you dont have the funds for that, seriously try a can of seafoam, and do exactly what it says, I bet that will help with your power issue at least a little, and definately make sure nothing is worn or ready to break before you even consider throwing on a turbo.

Your going to need to depressurize your fuel system by pulling the fuse for the pump and running the car till it dies. This will take the pressure off and make it safe to work with. Fule will still be in the lines, you can't get around it. So prepare for dripping.
I got gas in my eye last Sat. and had to go to the ER. I'm ok, but you don't want stuff flying around. (btw, I was siphoning in a tight area)

I doubt your injectors are in fact "messed up".
A basic tune up with an MSD ignition system will help the N/T immensly.

SeaFoam does indeed help alot of cars.
Give that a try also. For right now though, don't worry about the injectors.

full tune up, seafoam, and fuel injection cleaning should be good.
if you wanted a race car, you should have bought a turbo. be happy with what you have.

the title is a sarcastic one. People pople PLEASE when someone owns a N/T they know what they have and if there a registered member they KNOW THAT THEY SHOULD SELL IT AND BUY A GSX OR GS-T. For some of us that cant be pratical for our lifestyles. I myself can't afford a gs-t or gsx so yeehhh. Trust me guys I would love one. I'v made a GS turbo in the past and this is my second. For some of us making the car what it is makes it half the fun. Driving is the other half :D.

I agree.. Making the car is half the fun.. I'd also like to add that some of us woulld rather use the money that could be going to our "turbo" insurance rates on other things, like mods.. :)

Buy a 4G63 and be like everyone else, or mod a 420a and be the only in your neighborhood... It's a choice we all make..

well the money you save turboing it will go to fixing all the stuff it brakes. Interesting thought process. My insurance for my NT-commuter is like 10$ less then for my AWD.

definitely get some injector cleaner and push the car to redline a lot on that tank, get the flow as close to peak as possible. do you pay close attention to where you buy fuel? one or more tanks of bad fuel may cause you to have less than desirable timing... try unplugging your battery for a few mins, reconnect, start the car and let it idle for a few mins before driving. make sure you're always buying good fuel (obviously nothing above 89 with your stock 420a) from a trustworthy chain.
tranny fluid? spark plugs and wires? tire pressure? clutch adjustment? you'd be surprised how any of these little things can ruin performance. lots of stereo equipment? perhaps you're sucking too much electricity? my car idles in a funny way with my stereo cranked up. good luck, i like to see people taking a road less traveled, just be prepared for your own share of problems

    alright sorry dude

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=214744 heres a link to a thread about some n/t performance, check the specs out on the profile of the begginer of that thread, his car its pretty decked.

do a usualy routine maitenence-plugs,wires,fuel/air filters, change oil possibly to synthetic, change oilfilter, run seafoam through the motor, change manual tranny fluid or if auto then change the tranny fluid+flush+change tranny filter screen(if dsm trannys have one), check any exhaust leaks.

remember if you want power you need a lot of air into the motor and alot of fuel, turbo does the air deal, upgrade to a better fuel pump and injectors and you got yourself a quick car. There is potential in 420as..

If you want to check the "condition" of your engine, run a compression test. Injectors/pump without a turbocharger will slow your car down. Especially w/o an SAFC.

Good point with the stero equiptment. Could be that maybe but all the other points are good ones as well so much appreciated to all. I have a 1200 watt amp on 1100 subs so thats a lot of power. Granted its not up to 1200 but its in the 1000 range.

While your 420a may be "slow" compaired to a modded 1g or 2g turbo it'll still smoke alot of the people who think they're driving a dsm.

Still if you dont think you're getting the power you should be I definatly support the idea of seafoaming to the max. You're going to need a good clean running motor if you want to drop a turbo on their either way, so its a good place to start.

So i dont know much of where i can go or if i can do it myself. I have access to a shop so i think it would be able to be done there right?
