1990 Eagle Talon TSi AWD--bought the beginning of October 1996.
October 26, 1996 was the first time at the strip with the car..........BONE STOCK ran best [email protected] with 2.0 60' foot times. I hadn't learned to launch yet obviously.
October 4th, 1997 I made my first pass in the 12's less than a year later with a [email protected]. This was at E-town during the Import Survival Series Event. Total money spent on the car to that point was $710.00 in mods. ATR cat-back, K&N, MBC, and Magnecor wires. Of course, MAF mods etc., that were free. Everyone in the Extreme Motorsports camp was shocked, and so was I. I was getting the hang of the driving finally, and the car RAN STRONG. 18 psi boost and 1.75 60' time. I ran 12.76 and a couple 12.8's the next weekend back at our "local" strip, Lebanon Valley, NY. This is really when my goal to be the quickest stock turbo out there became reality.
July 10th, 1998--DSM Shootout- ran best of [email protected]
Sept. 5, 2000 New best [email protected]
April 28, 2001 New best [email protected]
Sept. 26, 2001 New best [email protected]
Oct. 19, 2001 New best [email protected]
June 21, 2002 New best [email protected]
Sept. 4, 2002 New best [email protected]
This is the night I finally beat Leon R's time of 12.053 with a 12.052 and then the 12.022. 60' times were both 1.73 on these two passes. This is where my ultimate goal was met. Funny, considering when I bought the car, all I wanted was to run a 13 second pass. Now I was nibbling at the 11's. The 13's came pretty easy, so naturally, I wanted a challenge, and, I got it from alot of guys that went quicker than I did, initially.
October 18, 2002. I'm working at Extreme Motorports now. Ran the Talon once down there and made a [email protected] pass as my best......new best 60' at 1.65 and trap at 113. But, no 11 second pass. The job didn't work out and I was home in May of '03.
May 30, 2003 [email protected] Just can't hit 11's!
I'm gonna say sometime in the summer , I think June as I remember holding the record for 8 months or so, I tried again....the timeslip date and time is wrong and I never wrote down the damn date....and hit [email protected] which was a new personal best for me, but, no elevens. If I'm correct, the next day, Leon R. beat my 12.00/12.02 and went into the 11's.
Now, there's a break until 2007:
October 19, 2007 [email protected] Still no elevens.
I had made some changes to the car including, lightweight flywheel, driveshaft, and JIC coilovers. Trap speed jumped to 115. Previous best was 113.32.
Suspension was so stiff, and car was lighter so I was just spinning all four, even through second gear. 60' time on this run was 1.84.
October 21, 2007 [email protected] Still no elevens.
This was two days later at a better prepped track that was closer to sea level--almost an identical run. 60' time was 1.86. In fact, my best 60' for both days was a 1.79. Previously, my worst would be 1.73-1.74
I was just plain stuck at 12.0 and it became a local joke...eventually it wasn't funny anymore and I really needed to go get what I should have had years before, that elusive 11 second timeslip.
Another break until 2009. I know I need traction now. Bullett and I talk about the possibilities. We decide it's slicks...the car needs to hook.
FAST FORWARD:
May 10, 2009 [email protected] FIRST TIME SLICKS
Best 60' that day was 1.57
July 10, 2009 [email protected]
Best 60' that day was 1.54
Trap speed is still current best MPH
October 23, 2009 [email protected]
Best 60' that day was 1.48
Added chip from Dave W. with stutterbox...IT WORKS!
So, new personal bests set at all three outings in 2009 and finally, 11 SECONDS!!! That is a quick chronology of my history in drag racing with the Talon.
That is just to give base to whomever wants to follow from here on out.
Sitting at a personal best of 11.49, there is only one person in front of me for all time 14B ET, the almighty Joe B. and his superfast Laser FWD.
Also, at 11.49, I had no choice but to name this blog with reference to 10 seconds. That is the TARGET now, whether or not it can be met remains to be seen. And, No, I'm not forgetting that first I have to run low 11's before I can get to the 10's....but this blog now has long-term implications rather than something that can't be added to over time.
Efforts to get there are are what this blog is about. Any updates I will do here, with accomplishments at the drag strip or dyno also being posted in the forums if I feel it is noteworthy enough.
Thanks everyone for the interest, ideas, recommendations, and props given in the past, and here's to new ones!
