A question for Californians

ive heard that 6 bolt swaps were illegal in california. it is a possibility that i may be moving there and i have a 6 bolt in my 2g. any truth to the word i heard?

any engine swap from an engine prior to your car's manufacture date is illegal in california. but honestly, they are not going to know the difference between a 6 bolt and a 7 bolt. are you planning on converting a obd2 car to obd1, because that is illegal and can be detected. but if you are just swapping a 6 bolt it, i say do it. plus, there's always a way around smog

There are a ton of people who have 2g 6 bolts. A few on my local board. Dont worry about it unless its like what unlmtdndeavor said.

yeah, i doubt even the smog referre stations will notice the difference between a 6 and a 7bolt unless they check the castings. as long as you still run obdII and you do it right, im 99% sure it will go on undetected.

I was weary of swapping a 6 bolt in my car as most up to date smog mechanics have that little computer monitor next to the dyno where they scan the barcode and it shows them a picture of a stock engine.

Unless you have a mechanic that cheated his way through the ASE exam, he's going to notice your 1g CAS hanging off your intake cam.

Don't tell them about it, and I doubt most mechanics could tell.
