A few problems..

Ok, so I just picked up this Talon AWD this past week, and so far its been alright, cept a few things have got me worried, im just gonna list them all incase theyre somehow related or if this kinda stuff is normal, this is my first DSM:

1) When I was driving it home after buying it, the exhaust sounded like it got a leak in it all of a sudden, its alot louder now and the car idles at like 2G on startup, i know its cold up north here, but once it warms up its still around 1500-1000rpms

2) The other day I was driving it somewhat hard hit about 75ish then the power dropped off a bit. When I parked about 3 mins later, I noticed the engine was smoking, so I popped the hood to see what was up, and it looked like the dipstick had come dislodged and sprayed oil all over everything, including the exhaust manifold/heat shield which is what started the smoking. I dont think its the headgasket or anything, and the oil level is still somewhat high and the pressure is at normal levels now as well.

3) Today I stopped to get gas and after getting about half a tank i went to leave, as I was pulling out the car started bucking and the ABS light started flickering, i pulled into the next parking lot and let it sit for a min then went to leave again and it started acting up, so i shut it off for a minute and tried it again and it was fine, except now, it feels a bit sluggish, almost like its not boosting properly, i dont know if its in my head because im becomming paranoid about driving it now or what..

4) The radio started cutting in and out.

Anyways, I dont know if somethings up with it or not, I think i need to have it compression tested just to be sure, maybe take a closer look at the turbo as well, its too dark and cold out now, but have any of you had similar problems or suggest anything? Thanks

the idle could be acouple of things, egr, isc, dirty throttle body, or broken vacum line

If the idle is consistent, and the needle doesn't hunt around or surge up and down, you probably just need to adjust the idle.

The problem with the dipstick is pretty normal. Just get a new one from machv or pinch the existing one so it doesn't pop out easily. For the ABS, you could pull the fuse or replace the sensors if it gets really bad.

If the car is sluggish you might have a dragging brake caliper holding you back. Might also have a vacuum line that popped off. Check out Taboospeedshop.com for a diagram of the emissions stuff, the vacuum line diagram is pretty well done.

A set of NGK BPR7ES plugs and some OEM wires would probably do wonders for the car as well.

He'd have to hold onto it if he got a 2G since he'd need a 6-bolt swap instead of normal wear 'n tear maintenance.

# 2) That's normal for the 1st gens dipstick. Buy a new one or get a pair of pliers and barely bent the dip stick tube tighter around the dipstick.

# 4) Pull the radio and check that harness. If the harness is fully pressed in then you will want to check the 4 screws that connect attach it to the DIN in which the radio sits.

The only thing I can tell you about the other two would be to replace the fuel filter and to get a compression check ran on the engine.
