A Cost Effective BOV Solution for 2G Owners

I was looking at various alternatives to the weak 2G BOV and I purchased a 1G BOV with upper pipe from a forum member at a fair price and decided to build the adapter myself.
Before I got started I was taking a look at a friend's Lancer EVO VIII and noticed the stock BOV looked remarkably similar to my 2G BOV. He runs 19-23lbs and the stock piece seems to work just fine.

I went on an EVO forum and looked for stock BOVs for sale and I picked one up for $20 shipped that was in excellent condition. When it arrived I checked and sure enough the stock tube was the same size as the 2G BOV.

The body is a little deeper on the EVO BOV and the nipple for the vacuum source is ~120* CCW from the stock location. The stock line from the manifold is long enough to hook up with out any kinks so the install required no modifications.

The results?...
I no-longer have a boost leak and it holds boost just fine at 15lbs, I can't test any higher as I don't have the supporting mods to do so, yet.

I think for $20 this is an excellent "budget" solution, but your mileage may vary.

As requested I did a boost leak test and the EVO VIII BOV is rock solid at 23psi, no leaks.

the EVO8 BOV isnt something you want. Its plastic just like the 2G so will start leaking sooner or later. What you want is the MR BOV it has a stiffer spring and a metal valve for reliable operation, it can hold a little over 1.5 bar. That is why many GSR owners get the MR BOV. You can check Slowboyracing.com too i think they have a little write up why the MR BOV is better than the plastic GSR.

We aren't arguing saying that the MR BOV isn't better. The point is for 20$ it is a good solution until it does fail. As far as cost v reward or bang for buck It seems to be a really good solution even if just a temporary solution. I got one for 20$ that will be arriving soon. I'll let you guys know how mine holds up.

Well im saying why would a plastic bov be good. It will break or start leaking someday because its built like the 2g which is proven to fail.
