Does anyone know what the average labor cost for new rings, pistons and rods would be? I just bought the car two months ago and after I took the cat off I noticed a lot of oil burning. The list of parts said I had 550's on but come to find out I only had the stock (380's?) and I turned the boost up to 21lbs and fried some rings:thumb: . Any help would be appreciated? Thanks

well is your car automattic, I take it that it is, because the 5speed came with 450s... But maybe its auto, and on a stock 1g set up theyd say 16psi was max, so on 380cc injectors id imagen you could at least knock of to lbs to that equation, and drop it down two 14 max ( guessing ) and I dunno what a sti can boost at on a stock fuel, turbo, engine set up, but a dsm cannot no well in hell candle 21 without some thorough upgrading, and if you pushed 21 lbs you probably ran so lean and knocked so much the shockwaves and ill effect of the knock cracked your piston rings, and probably burnt your pistons up pretty badly, and possibly warped the cylinders... ( why your smoking obviously ) Now labor cost really just depend on where, who, how, when kind of stuff, every place is different you know, see I have a dsm master building up a 6bolt engine for me going in possibly in a month, and he gives me good prices but not everyones that lucky, but parts wise maybe check out-
( and while your getting new internals might as well upgrade, especially since you have a itchy trigger finger for high boost... Do it once, do it right!)

but no ebay stuff for what you need, wouldnt be a smart move to ebay engine internals...
Good luck with your engine.... Sorry i dont have more than that.

No its a manual. I didn't realize that there was a diferrent injector size from m/t to a/t. I'm new to the whole DSM thing obviously. I was under the impression that my turbo size was listed in my info. I've got Big16 and I'm guessing that the only reason the previous owner never upgraded the fuel system was b/c he never took it over 16 lbs. He did everything else the same way I would have done it if I was gonna go the B16g route. I took it out to Buschur's to ask them about the VPC and as to why I was getting fuel cut when I had bigger injectors. So we threw it on the dyno and made a few pulls with a 13.6 ave A/F with a spike of 16.7, and thats when we noticed that I didn't have the 550's. So I bought a set and thew them on one the VPC chip came in. Still made 271 wph on a Mustang, but that all off topic stuff. I have already planned on doing all new internals, just not until this winter. I would have never turned the boost up that high if I would have known that I was still running the stockers. As for a shop to do my work, it will all be done at Buschur's. I live 15 mins from their shop and had all my work on the STi done there not to mention I have a couple of buddies who work there. I would have asked them but I just kinda wanted to see what people on here were paying, plus I don't get the see them very often due to the fact that I work 2nd or 3rd shift every day. Again thanks for the help.
