------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alright so I did some research and checked and saw that a lot of people are preferring to swap the 7 bolt with a 6 bolt and do a 1g/2g combo replacement parts or some others choose to replace with forged parts.

Reliable, Cheap, Fast. For everyone they can only pick 2.

I choose RELIABLE and FAST. So I'm buying a 99 Eclipse GSX. It has about over 200k miles on the car and the person says its the original engine. Now I'm not sure if it had a rebuild before but what I want to do is do a rebuild of my own with forged internals and make it basically new everything. I've never done an engine rebuild before so I'm new to this. Now I know there will be some of you that will ask me what my budget is and that just have swapping the 7bolt for the 6bolt and just getting some parts that could be reliable for what I want to get. I respect your viewpoints but thats not what I want.

I'm just trying to replace everything I can with high quality parts. I intend to have a built engine that will easily hold up 400whp and even more when I continue to build it. I don't intend to take the engine out and try to rebuild it if its not necessary so I'm just trying to get this done and out of the way right now. My budget is limitless since this will not be a week job or done in a day. It will take time and time will bring in money.

My goal is 350whp to begin with and upwards towards 450-500 mark. I'm looking into getting a GT30R or GT35R.

I looked around and most people have just been given parts that would make it reliable for 350. I want something reliable for that and even more. If someone can guide me in the right direction for parts NEEDED for an ENGINE REBUILD that would help a newbie like me in that area out.

Thanks.

Regarding how to rebuild an engine and what parts you need, you need too read a book.

Now about wanting to overbuild a 350 HP engine, that's easy. Just look at what people are building their 500 HP engines with, and use the same components (minus the turbo, and likely cams) and tune it for 350 instead of 500.

Stock 7 bolt rods become a liability around 450whp, give or take. Until you start approaching 400whp, I wouldn't be too concerned.

Once you do get there, almost any aftermarket rod and piston will work fine for 500whp. Eagle or Manley rods are comparatively cheap and will hold that power level without much worry. Pistons from Mahle, Ross, or JE would be my pick, and in that order. Bearings, I'd only use ACL Race series. I would leave the assembly to a professional until you fully understand what clearances you want and have the tools to measure them accurately.

Do yourself a big favor and replace the oil pump / front case with a new OEM unit when you rebuild. It's a good precaution to protect your investment as much as you can. Oiling problems and bad clearances will ruin a nice build in a matter of seconds.

I agree. I recommend this book.

You can look at the parts in my car...I'm shooting for 600hp minimum with this build...I've been told that forged internals tend to be under rated ie. H beam vs I beam...better not to gamble if you've got the funds though...a good place to start looking and asking questions and getting pricing for your build up is at modern automotive performance...they ship free on orders over 99 dollars and they practically cater to DSM and EVO owners...they carry an extensive line of parts and have a custom fabrication shop on site that they are always happy to steal a tech from to answer technical questions.

Hmmm I read around and it seems forged internals have different quality depending on which make etc. I'll check them out to see what their tech has to say. but I'm still reading and researching. Trying to build it right the FIRST time. Yea and I'm also shooting for around 550whp.

LOL...good deal...you save money doing it right the first time...if you get dave when you call maperformance...tell him gary said he's still waiting for his damned fuel rail LOL

Edit: FYI...the MAPerformance RX-7 is power by a DSM engine...and it's turning out 1018hp...those guys know their stuff pretty well ;D

:notgood:My car will never get there. Lol

BBoosted Yeep, you sound like you have the exact same goals as me. A 99' overbuilt final goal of 500-550 hp, unlimited Budget, GT30 or 35, ECT. I didn't know alot about dsm's when I bought my car In 09 but have learned invaluable wealth of information about them just reading countless threads on this forum and also a couple books that I would recommend.

First "How To Build Max-Performance Mitsubishi 4G63t Engines" by Robert Bowen.
This book is great tells you alot about 4g63 engines and it was written in conjunction with Robert Garcia of Road Race Engineering.

The second one is "Engine Management Advanced Tunning" by Greg Banish
Amazon.com: Engine Management: Advanced Tuning (9781932494426): Greg Banish: Books

I just started rebuilding my motor to stock, running a 16G for a while hopping for 350 AWHP on this build. Then I'll tear it apart and do a 2.3l build with a gt35 and hopefully make it into the 500's. So if you have any questions on how I went about doing it feel free to ask. It sounds like I'm just a step ahead of you on the same road.
