2G 99 GST What tranny will work?

ok, I have a 99 GST with a 5-spd, and I have been looking all over for a 95-99 used / junkyard tranny... no luck... But I have come across a LOT of 1g tranny's that "look" like they would be a perfect match... Would a 1g non-turbo tranny (or turbo) bolt up to my car. I've heard something about swapping bell housings and speedo cable. Has anyone done this and will they hold up (1g non turbo tranny on a 2g turbo if possible)

The 1g tranny will work fine but you need to find a turbo tranny and the 1g will hold up fine. Now you can use the non turbo tranny bit you will need to get a non turbo flywheel and clutch...i do not recomend doing that though as the gearing is way different and will not hold up.

ok, what about having to change bell housings or anything like that. I've also heard that if I get a 1g tranny, I need to use the 1g spindle as well...

I am under the impression the transmission will have two less mounts than the 2G.

I have both a 1g and a 2g and they are both identical both are fwd turbo cars. Now i could be way off here and somebody swapped a 1g tranny in it at one point in time but obviously it worked... ( someone please correct me if im wrong i dont want to give anyone false advise im just going by what i saw with my own 2 eyes)

The 2G cars have 1 mount on the engine and three on the tranny. 1G's have 1 mount on the tranny and 3 on the engine. You can use the 1G parts in the 2G bellhousing, then it will work; if you don't swap bellhousings you'll have no where to bolt the front and rear mounts to.

Ive always heard that the 1g trannys dont shift nearly as nicely. Stick with a 2g. Go on craigslist or something. Always good deals on there.
