99 Eclipse 4G64 N/T A/T went out. Will a 2g FWD Turbo A/T work?

I know that the 2.4Liter in the spyder is the 4G64. I'm trying to figure out what other transmissions might fit the vehicle. Would an A/T from a 95-99 FWD DSM work? The blocks are essentially the same so I imagine it would bolt up. Can anyone confirm?

No. The transmissions bolt up on completely different sides of the car. The 1g turbo and n/t FWD transmission are interchangeable but not the 4g63 and 420a.

Not correct information . I know the 4g64 manual tranny will bolt up to a 4g63 but I have no real experience with an A/T. The bell housings are the exact same. Although I can not give you a 100% positive answer, I'd say yes it will atleast bolt up as long as it was a turbo 2g, the n/t 420a are on different sides.

Also, the 1g tranny has a different mounting setup and would require fabrication. Stay with a 2g trans.

If you try to put a 4g63 transmission into a 4g64 car instead of the axle's running behind the motor they will run in front of the motor which is not possible. Yes it will bolt up to the block but it won't fit in the car very well. And I was just stating that the 1g can interchange between each other. Not suggesting he try to use one.

Where are you getting this information? That is completly wrong the 4g63 and 4g64 transmissions are cosmetically the same, including where the axles run.

I know I had both of them

Picture a 4g63 transmission. The axles come out of the firewall side of the transmission. If you try to put it in a 4g64 car, you have to put the transmission on the drivers side of the car and turn it 180* So instead of the output being behind the block, they will be turned and in front of the block.

Dude...its NOT a 420A its a 4g64...totally different motor.

ahhhhhhh well why didn't you say so in the first place . My bad. In that case then I am unsure. They will bolt up and I am sure they are the same dimensions. I searched and found that you need to shave the inside of the 4g63 transmission on a 5-speed swap but nothing about the automatic. May have to change the TCU as well.

Yes it should bolt up just fine, not sure about the TCU, very possible it might need to be changed. Some of the guys more specialized in transmissions might be able to tell you. Goodluck!

to give some clarification.

you can put the 2G turbo FWD transmission into your car ( i say turbo because makes sure you don't get a 420a one)

you can also use the transmission from a 1994-1998 galant as our transmissions are interchangable with the 2G turbo FWD.

just make sure to use the axles out of the car the transmission comes from. the galants axles are slightly smaller on the transmission input side but identical on the spindle/hub side
