Seems that I am not making much progress but really I am.

Had a visit from fellow DSMR, Shredwin all the way from St. Marys, Pennsylvania, drove his 1g all the way down here.

We had made some plans to go to the race track as there was a race that weekend, but due to a death in my family, had to change plans, we were able to spend sometime together but not enough, hope next time he is down, things will be different.

I do thank him for showing the interest in seeing my builds and paying the visit.

I think he liked what he saw.
On to what I have done lately.

Removed both 1/4 panels and trial fitted the new parts they are going to go on fine.

The weight removal was not much 40# both sides.
There was a lot of work involved and for some people it may not be worth it, but like I have said before I am a weight nut.
I also removed the Apexi turbo back pipes to the bend on the drivers side the rest I had done before. Although well built It is very heavy this section alone weights 38#, I also took out the heat shield at another 7#.
I still have to widen the front fenders and add flares to it.

I am getting close to start doing some mechanical work which I will enjoy more than my fiber work.

That would be nice, by the end of the year I hope to have this thing well under way, we have kind of laid off the mitsus. since my grand son bought another car for his driving school which will be at Homestead in August. It is a FIAT BRAVA, This car has gone around the family since my son had it before and with it, won the SCCA enduro championship back in 2006 in Florida, sold it later, the guy never did anything with it ,so George got a good deal, it has been sitting for four years, we already started the engine and every thing looks OK so far, the car is not very fast but it is like the energizer battery it keeps going and going.
It is a perfect school car.

Hope you bring your other car when you come down.

Hey thanks, yes you are close and I may be up that way in the near future we may have a race coming up at the track, also have a friend that is almost up there every week end, as he is planning on moving there and has a lot of his stuff there already, he is building a 914 and also had a 944 before, he has all of that upthere already in fact 2 wks ago he took another 914 roller up there, his name is Ray, he is a real car nut.

I am making all his fiber parts for the 914.

Starting to do some mechanical work, took the complete exhaust system out and it is very heavy from manifold to tip it weights 63# and this does not have a cat just the test pipe I guess with a cat it must be around 70 to 75 #, it is one heavy piece of pipe.

It is not going back on, it will be replaced by aluminum and it will come out right behind the drivers door, I dont have any idea if it will pass a decibel test, I
can save another 50#, plus the shield which weights 6#.

This system comes out 2 1/4 from manifold to flexpipe, from flex pipe to about 12" before muffler it is 2 1/2", the last piece of pipe that attaches to muffler, the 12" piece, seems to be 3", the muffler is an APEXI.

Is this the standard replacement?

If I want to come out from manifold with a 3" pipe to a flex joint also 3", does the flange still has to be 2 1/4 and then expand to 3"?

I am sure the answer is somewhere in the forum but did not find it, also looked at the apexi catalog.

That's about a normal replacement for a performance exhaust most get a 3 incher but the downpipes will always be 2.5 at the flange

Your building a race car so why not a race car exhaust basically 3 or for inch exhaust out the side.

Do you mean coming out the side in front of car?, If so, I cant do that, all road racing groups rules specify the ehx. must come out behind driver.

I could take it out the side right at the bend that goes towards the driver side but that would lower my height, the other option is to go straight back from there, like the normal system and run the 3" all the way back.

I remembered about that rule after i posted, but i have seen another car on here that was running the exhaust out the side and it came out threw a hole in the rear panel section in front of the tire.

like this but of out the quarter panel instead of the door. you would need a fuel cell instead of the stock fuel tank to do this.

Fuel cell is mandatory and already have that, We have another car where the pipe is also coming out the door but had to built an enclosure around it.

I have to get under car again, but taking it out the rear quarter almost to the wheel well may be the way to go, not sure yet, I want to avoid bends.

Been real busy with GS FIAT getting it ready for driving school at Homestead on Aug 25 and 26, this car has been sitting for 4 yrs, so we are trying to go over as much as possible, a low power engine has been built for the school, waiting for some parts to put it in, new brakes , wheel bearings, trans mount, etc.

I have finished the mold for the seat and made one for above car since an instructor has to go in for some laps, they wont let me go as instructor with him, they say I will fail him for sure.

I am starting to get some parts since the glass work is almost all done.

I think I have found a good way to make the subframes connectors, but still have to take more measu.

I hope to have a dashboard done by the end of wk., I have to make 3 total.

Take a look at "farausa" to have a better idea of what we do there, there are some nice videos too.

Have been pretty busy lately. Here are some pics of the dashboard which I finally made, it turn out better than I expected, some wrinkles but not bad at all.

Also pictures of the 2 seats which I also made, and the plugs and molds.

Will work next on front cap as I have to widen it about 4 inches on each side and add some flares.

I have made a change in plan, and now more than likely, I am going to go with a 1.6-4g61, since they added a break to the class, I can now run this engines in the lower class and be in the same class as my son and some of my friends also will be cheaper on maintenance.

So if anyone has one of these engines please let me know.

It has been a while since my last post, I have kept busy doing what I can to the project in my free time.

I have started to trial fit the pieces I already have made, everything has gone into place fairly well, there are no fasteners on any piece, except for some glue just to keep them in place and take shape.

The next step is doing the front fenders spaced out 4 inches to get proper clearance for tires.
