YEA, you are correct, have to take advantage of low or minimal investments any chance you get. I could not afford all of this if I were not doing myself. I in a way feel lucky. It may take a little longer but will be able to use my limited funds to improve
the car in other areas.

You are right, no messing around I can not afford to.

Thanks

I completely agree. Some of the best ideas come from motivation like that.

Mr. Bucci is known for his budget built lightweight FWD Laser. He ran 10's on a 14b in a FWD back in 2004-2005.

Be sure to read about project goodwill to get the whole history of the car.

Thanks for your link. quite a guy, very nice work he did on the car.

Is he still around , could not find any more info on him?

are you gonna be getting rid of the "16v DOHC TURBO" badges? Id love to have em!

I think they were never on the car, if you look at the first few pictures you will see this car had side skirts from a body kit and it cover those emblems so probably were taken out.
I will look to see if I have them, if I do will let you know, I wont use them they weight too much.

Wow, truly inspiring to do this..I'm so subscribing to this thread, keep up the good work arrowhead..

If you come across any unnecessary metal in the car that can get cut out please be sure to let us know, im currently in the works of dieting my car..gone as far as a cf hood, hatch, cut out the rear spare tire well, sound deadening, and the other basic stuff including depinning the wiring but if there is any extra metal in the car that is of no structural support/importance let us know.

HA, so that in the picture is just stickly tape? I ddnt think of that, i just assumed it was the badge. haha

Are you going with some kind of cage full or partial?

Next summer i plan getting either a 4 or 8pt cage depending on my track requirements and my comfort-ability with my own safety.

If those are your plans I would not advice removing much more metal at this time as you would then start compromising the structural capacity of the car and your safety, there are a lot of other things you could remove and save weight.

Get cage then go to town.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice, looking forward to seeing the finished product :)

You are correct , it is not tape and they are still on the car, the other day when you asked I was not home and could not check it.

They are not a badge actually they are like rubber and glued on body, I think if they were taken off they would be damaged,

Go at least w/ the 8 pointer and if you can a 10, this is one place where you do not want to skimp or save weight and make sure you get dom tubing.

Here are more pictures of some small progress and found other places where I can save about 12#.

Waiting on body shop to give me date so chassis can be check.
I dont want to touch rear quarters until car gets back.
Probably make front end one piece except for hood, will eliminate front head lights,
to be replaced by glass and incorporate into 1 piece front end, will see how things fall into place.
Dont really like front bumper but it is what I have, will modify for cooling ducts to radiator and brakes and oil cooler and attach splitter, still lots of work ahead, was thinking of not doing fenders since they are only 6# each, but by taking measurements tire will be sticking out about 2".

very motivating work, what's the target weight you are trying to hit?

I have not set a target weight, as I keep finding places to take weight off, like I mentioned before, I want this to be the lightest car I have built.

My 69 corvette was 2200, fully caged, big block 427 ci, and all the things that go in a race car, but it was not my lightest, so I will see where I can take this to.
I have read many times that these cars are pigs, heavy and so forth, they are really not when compared to similar cars if you compare to a civic, yes but not many more. The structure of the car is also very solid.
There will be a lot of weight put back in, full cage, fire system, fuel cell which is heavier than stock tank.
I have to get this as light as I can as my economic resources wont allow me to spend a lot on go fast goodies and I have to improve on my power to weight ratio.
Thanks for your interest.

Dam nice im going to have to hit u up when im ready to do my bodywork. Im wainting to customize my front and rear bumpers. The stuff the oem bumpers are made of dont hold up to customizing, and have repaired fiberglass but never maid anything out of it eccept a patch. What are using for a release agent?

There is mold release wax, many brands available, the wax will take care of a lot of small imperfections on the part, but it is just like doing prepping when getting ready to paint the better your surface the better your final is going to look like, I do about 6 coats of wax and if the part is virgin I do more.

Then a coat of pva with this you have to be careful it does not puddle on bends or angles if it does then you have more sanding to do on your final, this is a green liquid, make sure you have adequate ventilation when using it.

Glad to be of help.
