Hey guys, I have an auto 98 GSX. When i got it first thing I did was changed the oil. I was driving it, i got around 40mph and it started shaking very hard to where i had to basically slow down to 20 mph or so and shortly after i parked it. After parking it the radiator was busted so i replaced it, (yes i fixed it correctly, i checked twice) and When i backed it up to put it under the garage i noticed that it was difficult to move while in gear, almost like the E-brake was on or something. This bothered me so I didn't drive it, and still haven't. The car goes into gear, but you CANNOT push it while it is in neutral. I cranked her up and put it in reverse and forward and there is resistance, i haven't rev'd her up too much to try to make her go scared that something by go wrong, but my question is, What are all the possibilities of what it could be? and has anybody else had this problem before?

I had the same thing happen to me when I first bought my gsx. Before I got a chance to do maintenance. Who ever had my car before me had an output shaft seal leaking at the t-case long story short I had to replace my t-case. I would suggest checking fluids first.

Okay to start I would say pull the rear diff cover and look at the gears i can almost guarantee the rear diff is going to look like a grenade went off in it. I worked for a dealership prior to joining the Air Force and your explanation is every customers complaint with a tow in. First they would be driving get the shake from hell then when parked the gears or shattered gears would be settled so when they go to move the vehicle the axles cant turn in the carrier. Hope this helps let me know what the rear diff looks like and post a picture.

Before you look at the rear diff, i would check the tcase first as that is the most common. Then replace all the drivetrain fluids. And yes it was a recall. Unlucky for me, Chrysler would not recall my Talon for the Tcase and mitsu told me to go to Chrysler. They said if its over 10 years old and past a certain mileage and they can't do it. I ended up replacing it myself.

First thing I would check is the brake calipers to see if a wheel is locked up. Simply jack it up, put in neutral and try and spin the wheel by hand. He has a 98 model, the yoke design was changed prior to that.

okay guys thanks, may be two weeks before I can do this But ill take pics when i do. Appreciate it :D

My first guess would be the tcase as well.. its all to common on this platform..

If its a tcase you need the tcase to match the ratio of your transmission.. 97-99 are the same and 91-96 match each other...

You need a tcase from an Auto 97-99 ... Auto and Manual Tcases are not the same either.

The best place is probably a WTB on the classifieds here or on one of the bazllion facebook groups..

I run a 97 Auto myself.. I have 2 tcases for spare ...I could be convinced to sell one for a hell of a lot cheaper than that link i'm sure...Send me a Private Message if you determine that's the problem and have trouble finding one and I'll help you out..

Thanks dacowgod, i'lllet you know here in a little or a week or so when I have time to determine the problem exactly. I'm just preparing so when I do it, I can get it done fairly quickly.
