So I just got a 96 Talon TSI AWD had a bad rod baring that i had fixed. The car ran tremendously for three days and just stalled out on me while driving. Making some strange noise. Then I started the car again and it was fine. Drive about five feet and the did it all again but this time it did not start up again. It makes a clicking noise and the fans run. I need help I did have a Honda and now I am lost in a much bigger engine. So is my engine actually locked up? or is it some other issue. Also this is the 6 bolt engine rebuilt by a shop. Everything has been upgraded still working out the details of what all it has in it. Ill post on a later date all the upgrades so then maybe more answers can be given. Thanks a ton

First thing is first - To check and see if the engine is seized, you can use a
breaker bar (or ratchet if you want) and place it into the end of the crank pulley. Turn it clockwise. The engine will have some resistance, but it shouldn't be so much that you have to struggle to turn it. Remove the spark plugs to ensure that this is easier as compression will still be made during this cycle.

If for some reason you can't turn it at all, you have problems. Report back with what you find. One step at a time.

We tried that when it first locked up and it did not budge. But we did not take out the spark plugs but I dont think it would have made that much of a difference.

If it won't budge - time to stop pulling things apart. Start with the pan. Check for bearing material, bent rods, etc. Then you may as well pull the head. Check for cracked pistons, bent rods, and so on.

Edit : Also ensure that you are in neutral...

What all did the shop who rebuilt it do? If they didn't properly flush and clean the head then the bearing material from the previous spun bearing was still there and just circulated once you fired up the "rebuilt" motor.
Also those particles get everywhere: Oil filter, Oil filter housing, oil cooler, oil pump, oil pick up, head, block. Anything and everything that sees oil.
After a spun bearing all these parts should either be replaced or completely cleaned out

timing belt is fine and still on time. we still have not opened it up yet we have been making room in the garage.

Just start with the easiest things and work your way down the list till you get some answers. Good luck.

we checked the belts. battery, and the surface stuff. Next we will take off the oil pan and check the rods and the rod barrings. depending on that we may decide to take apart the head if the rod is damaged. if no rod is damaged than we will find the barring fix it and then flush the engine. and then put it all back together for hopefully a working car. I am also thinking about selling it if the cost starts to get to be to much for me. But I dont believe it will
