I'm guessing this is where I should post this.

Ok, I've finally found a car I might buy. It's a 98 GSX 5sp, silver, 81,000 miles, 1 owner, no mods, all records, driven by old guy, etc. He's saying $9,500 final. That is about a thousand over kbb ($8,500). So would you guys but it for that much?

A car like this comes around in my area (west coast) only a couple times a year. This one is in San Fransisco and I'm in Seattle, WA. So I'd have to go all the way down there to pick it up. I dont know if the deal is worth it.

that's not a bad deal. just not a good one. it all depends on how bad you want it. i paid kbb for mine because the gsx is a little harder to find. you have to take it into consideration that this car has probably never really been driven hard so your getting a good one. :thumb:

never buy above blue book if its stock, give it every possible option, also look on NADA.com thats what most banks use to process loans, atleast around my area they will only give you as much as the average price! :thumb:

81k and he wants $9,500? Unless that thing is pearl inside and out, its not worth it.

Seriously? I've kinda gotten this response from everyone I've asked but I've been looking for this exact car for about a year now. This is only like the fifth one that is what I want on my coast. Should I look for a less specific one? This is exatly what I want:
97-99 GSX
Silver or possibly gray or black
Manual
under 80k miles
few or no mods
somewhat near me
under $9k

So its really hard for me to find my dream car. Would you guys pay $9000 for the car? It's in good shape. I had someone test drive it and he said it was really nice. What would you guys pay for the car, seriously?

Driving SF and the Bay Area both are fairly rough on cars. The traffic's hedeous, and the roads are oxtrails.

I got my '95 with 66K on it for $7K two years ago. Of course, because the market is brainless, its being a Talon saved me money.

Unless you're absolutely stung by this particular car -as it sounds- try to pass it up. That's too much money.

you didn't test drive the car yourself? anyways, the banks will loan up to 125% of the trade in value of the car. this eclipse on nada.com is $8,675, so i'd suggest tryin to jew this guy down. he may say "firm", but just remind him that you have the money now and others don't.... a $1,000 dollar cut in a price is hard, but make sure he realizes that he won't sell this car to a smart buyer, and if he still wants to see it drive perfect, don't sell it to a stupid 16 year old who's going to make it "ricer".

If you are THAT picky about it, then by all means pay 9k. Is it worth that much? No, but if its worth that much to you then do it. I paid 3k for my TSi w/ 75k miles. All that was wrong w/ it was a blown turbo which i quickly switched a 16g. There are deals, youve just gotta find em and be willing to do a little traveling to get em.

i paid $14,000 3 years ago for my 98 eclipse w/36K. paid to much but i couldn't pass it up and a low mileage gsx is hard to find so i did it. it's all about how bad you want it. i would go look at the talon's. you can get them alot cheaper and thank F&F for that one.

paid 8,400 for my 99 n/t if that gives u any idea....although..it did have 60,000 miles and is completely flawless

I have a '97 TSi that I might possibly part with for $8500. 79k miles, 5 spd, AWD. Red exterior, greay leather on the inside. PM me for more info.

Very clean, and all stock except for the free mods, and boost and air/fuel gauges on the A pillar. Runs strong at 13psi.

That's a nice Talon Zeppelin. One of the nicest I've seen. I'm really set on a Mitsu though. I just like the way they look-perfect. :thumb:

Anyway thanks for the input guys. I'm gonna offer him $9000 and say take it or leave it. We'll see what happens.

I say go for a lower priced talon and just do the conversion.Thats what i did and mine looks great. Mine is a 95 Talon Tsi and now it looks like a 99 Eclipse GSX. All i needed was some headlights, tail lights, front and back bumper. I prolly spent about 600 on the conversion and saved about 3500 buying a talon instead of a eclipse.Just my 2 cents!

Also i dont know if u noticed but the car featured on the site as the car of the month is a 95 Talon. U cant even tell the differnce.Just some food for thought.

too much too much, i didn't pay nearly that much for my 98 n/t! :dsm:

i paid 9500 for my 90 awd back in june of 01... was in showroom condition with 9300 miles. everything was like new, i'd still do it over again if i had to, worth every penny
