Just bought a 98 GS-T the guy had 4 DSM's and he builds these all the time he said... I've drove it about 2,000 miles driving it pretty easy for break in period. i looked at my error codes and I have a bad upstream o2 sensor.. (just got new one in mail today) I just have a weird smell after revving up to like 5k.. It smells pretty bad coming from the cat converter. Also blows a little bit of white smoke out of exhaust? Just wondering if I replace the o2 sensor would all the problems stop? Or check cat converter too. THANKS!

How new is your turbo seals could be going bad. When my t25 went bad it blew white smoke.

I just replaced my 14b because I had bad seals. When I broke off the o2 from the turbo, my o2 housing had some oil in it which was heating up and causing the smoke. Put a new 14b on, smoked for a few miles then when all the oil burnt out the exhaust/o2 housing and now no smoke at all. But it was more a blueish smoke, coolant could be white smoke. Possibly the head gasket? Look for coolant leaks.

I'd check the turbo shaft play and if there isn't any, then I'd do a compression test. If the numbers aren't good I'd then do a leakdown test. Also, check your coolant to see if there's oil in it. And check your oil to make sure coolant isn't mixing with it. You can also disconnect the wastegate actuator and take the car up to 5-6K rpm and if it doesn't smoke, chances are it's your turbo. Disconnecting the wastegate will allow the exhaust gases to bypass the turbo and keep it from going into boost.
