$.98 BSE, Anyone else ever done it this way?

Yeah so I eliminated my 6 bolt 4G63Ts' Balance Shafts for $.98.

No, I didn't win a great ebay auction. No, my buddy didn't have the stub shaft already and needed a cigarette.

I got to thinking about what exactly is done when you eliminate the BSs'. I noticed there were two small plugs giving access to the oil gallies for the front BS bearings. I got a drill and drilled the phillips head plugs out, and then grabbed my set of taps and dies. Sure enough, the oil galley was already the perfect size for a 1/4-28 tap. So I tapped the oil gallies and put a 4" 1/4-28 bolt into the oil gallies and tightened them down tight. Next I grabbed the handy dandy dremel and cut off the remaining 1/4-28 bolts sticking out of the galley, then I tapped the block hole with 1/8 NPT pipe plug and capped the front cover off with a $.98 40mm freeze plug and some JB weld. I magneted and vacuumed all the dremelled and drilled material out of the block.

I chucked up the rear balance shaft in my shops' Band Saw and cut it off about 1.5" from the oil pump housing. I then dabbled a small weld on the end to plug the oil hole.

My block is at the machine shop getting hot tanked and honed, I was feeling pretty confident and thought I would let everyone know you don't HAVE to pay $40 to eliminate your BS's.

...yes but some of us dont have that option when bearings go bad and fall out causing the b-shaft to rub the metal block wearing the hole larger  damn balance shafts.

thanks for the idea, however great minds think alike as just a day or so before I was linked your post I removed the little screw to see if this was an option!
