First and foremost, YES I completed a search. More than I can count with my fingers and toes, actually. I'm a newb to the DSM scene, my previous toys consisting of numerous lsx fbody's and other domestics.

I recently transitioned back to Civilian life after 4 years of active duty Army service. The majority of funds left over after rent and other bills is headed directly towards my 1968 Chevelle wagon build. I'm currently daily driving a bitchin' Alero and am selling it very soon. I'm in the market to replace her with something capable of DD duty and still have a little bit of fun.

I looked at a '97 TSI awd tonight and have a few questions.

The car is 6 bolt swapped with a 7 bolt head and 16g turbo.Swap looks to be done relatively well from what I could see. Car started, idled, and ran fine upon cold start-up. No lifter tick or other concerning noises coming from the engine. Trans shifted smoothly through every gear and clutch felt great as well. Seems as if it could use some slight adjustment. Also has full 3" exhaust (not sure of brand) and that is all to my knowledge. Stock tune and fuel system so running hardly any boost. Needless to say, slower than hell at the moment.

The right rear has a slight vibration. Feels to me like a carrier bearing, but again im new to this platform.

During the test drive I wound her up to 5k or so in second gear. Afterwards the idle was surging some. This leads me to believe IAT?

Body and paint ; Slight usual rust on hatch although not as bad as most. Wheel wells, rockers, floor pans all solid. A previous owner had mounted a body kit, resulting in a few drilled holes in the rear 1/4 panel on each side. Paint is also rough duty to the same asshat scraping vinyl decals off with a razor blade.

Basically, what supporting mods will be needed for this to be a reliable daily? Im sure injectors, fuel pump, bov, and boost controller at minimum?

What is she worth? Better yet, what would YOU be willing to pay?

I appreciate the help in advance, guys.

Almost sounds like it has a boost leak since it feels slow and it could cause the idle surging. To make it fast I would send the ECU to ecmtuning and get ecmlink v3 lite then get injectors, fuel pressure regulator and a walbro 255 fuel pump. Then even with stock BC it should be able to lay down some good power. Some pictures would help me give you a price.

The car has a manual turbo xs boost controller which is turned all the way to the lowest setting. I failed to mention that. There isn't a boost gauge in the car so im unsure of the boost level.

So a pump, injectors, and tune will be adequate in making this a reliable DD? Granted I care and maintain her as needed?
