2G 97 Eclipse Spyder GST trying to convert to speed density

Hello all,
Ive searched but came up with no information here. But looking to convert to speed density and well my 97 eclipse gst spyder doesnt have a MDP sensor on the intake like all the other how tos ive seen so replacing it with the map sensor is just not possible. Ive even traced the engine harness and did not see a plug for one. If anyone can give insight as to how or why my car has no MDP that would be grand. Thanks

It's not a matter of just a map sensor. If you searched for speed density, you didn't search well enough as there are hundreds of threads on that subject here. Check the Tuning and Engine Management section.

That said, get a better photo of your engine bay.

I have read everything needed to swap over to speed density, but what is needed isn't what my question is about. I am simply asking what is the step if my car has no existing MDP nor does it have a connection for it. If you state that I havent searched well enough even after spending days and days reading the countless speed density forums then please help me locate the right answer

Yes but did it come from the US? I can't speak for non US cars
Car was imported from Japan from the previous owner, it is not a US spec.

What better photo would you like to see? I know the MDP original location is on the intake manifold so I provided my intake manifold in the pic.

Personally, I'd be interested in seeing which fuse box you have. That alone could let us know good info.

Playing around with google, I found a photo of this motor which is for sale as a "JDM 4G63" which shows the same manifold as OP. Still trying to find what car this came out of.

Most likely does not have an EGR valve , which means it did not need a MDP sensor to measure the vacuum restriction to measure the EGR valve being used.

For the information you request we will need to know the ECU currently in the car. If it is a silver case ECU then you will need to convert it to a black box us spec or Evo 8 ECU, or convert it to run a DSMLink chip

I’m not very knowledgeable about the speed density conversion, my project car came with an adapter to plug into the mass air flow sensor connector which then had plugs for the intake temp sensor and manifold pressure sensor. So not having the MDP sensor may not be an issue if the adapter in my project car is correct

What kind of ECU is the critical question as to where you would connect a MAP sensor. Mounting one isn't too difficult, drill a home in the intake manifold and tap it for a thread in one or tap into one of the hoses that sees manifold pressure. Same deal for mounting the Intake Air Temp sensor although I don't think using a hose for it is viable.

Also have to know which ECU to make sure there is software to convert it to run SD, you can't swap without that.

I have switch the car to a 99 GSX ECU and use ECUFlash with ceddymod to tune it. The stock ECU was a non-EPROM that came with the car.

Ok then the process for the ceddy mods scaling is pretty in depth, and one I’m not familiar with

The dsmlink setup takes place of the maf signal, if the ceddy mods speed density requires the mdp signal then you would have to find the pins at the ecu for the sensor and wire it manually to the ecu

I do recall ceddy mods requires cloning of the maf and factory outputs to calibrate speed density, if the ceddy mods requires the rewiring of the mdp sensor you would have to manually wire one in to the harness plug at the ecu

Awesome looks like im wiring one in then hahaha, I do have the ceddy mod speed density big map file as well so hopefully not too much tweaking would be needed to atleast get it to startup
