Hello everyone, i purchased a 1997 gst for 500 bucks. When i bought it it was"blown up" but i freed the motor up and got it running but it was knocking. It eventually threw a rod through the block. We removed the engine and put it on a stand. To my surprise the engine had a brand new head with less than 10k miles on it but the bottom end had somewhere around 136k. Most of the short block was damaged due to the rod. I bought a bare block and I'm needing direction as to what kind of internals i should get for a lot of power but something that isn't too overbearing. I am just unfamiliar with the parts and everything necessary to achieve what i want.

I have a 1200 dollar price range.
I would like to achieve somewhere around 350 and up hp.
I basically need a list of specific parts so that i can purchase them for the mechanic so we can start the build. I really appreciate the patience. Thank you guys.

Get a Manual for Instructions to Rebuild the Engine.

I just did mine with the Manual.

And Concerning the Parts,.,,. for 1200$. Just Install Stock Parts, Or get an estimate for the Machine Work, Like Hot tank the Block, ETC, ETC, ETC.

After the Estimate, you can see how much you will have left and go from there.

What engine is it? 6 bolt? 7 bolt?.

Yeah You can save money and put in stock internals unless you plan on reaching the 500 hp range.

Check out a couple of the supporting vendors here. You should be able to get a rebuilt short block for not a whole lot.
If you want to do the rebuild yourself, go stock or check out DSMGraveyard Frankenstein kits.
