97 Eclipse NT Tips

I have a 97 Eclipse nonturbo with 90k miles and i'm lookin to tune it. i was wondering what kind of exhaust, headers, intake, and stuff, and if its worth turboing. also does anyone know if its the same engine as the turboed eclipse because the engines are in different positions. if anyone could give me some info that'd be great. also i'm lookin at a Hayame cat-back. is that a good brand? With that said and done, i been hearing good feedback about the Tsudo N1 exhaust, you should look into that. But if you want something cheaper you could upgrade to the stock exhaust off an 2g Gst/Tsi. For header, Tsudo makes some 4-1 header and Pacesetters has 4-2-1. You can get some generic brand cold air intake off ebay.

Non-turbo and turbo eclipse come with two completely different engines. Non-turbo eclipse comes with the 420a engine and the turbo comes with the 4g63...and oh yeah, theres also the oddball non-turbo eclipse spyder with the 4g64 engine.

Pacesetter is crap. A good header will run $350 or more. Not worth it IMO.

The only way to see any real gains would be turbo or nitrous. I added several aftermarket parts to my 99 and it was still slow.

Well, before you do anything with your tuning on your car , you need to set a goal or limit and figure out what exactly you want to do?...if your just looking to get just a little bit more power then you can do the header, intake, exhaust, underdrive pulley, cam gears, and ignition.....otherwise ,as onepimpclipse said, you want to actually go fast you need forced induction or nitrous ....i did the samething as in bolting on mods to my N/A 420a and got some gains but not nearly enough...planning on the turbo install this commin winter...

Hahn Race Craft makes the best complete turbo kit for the N/T Eclipse. It comes in three seperate stages, and I believe stage 3 brings a claimed 450hp! Not too shabby! BUT, honestly, it isn't worth it. It is pretty pricey for those kits, and the 420a isn't even in the same ballpark as a 6 bolt 4g63.

I agree the kits from Hahn Race Craft and Star are pricey, but i have read on here of peeps piecing their own kits together to more specificly get what they want ....which in turn ,with good researching and shopping, can get one together much cheaper.... if you choose that road....again all comes back to how far you want to go....

I'm a Fan of Both 420a and 4g63 motors...
