96 TSI start and die

Hello, Perhaps one of you can help me resolve this issue I am having. I have a 96 tsi that will start and die. I can get it to start up and run up to about 2500rpms for about 3-5 sec. then it will die out like I shut off the key. It also runs rough. I had a cam sensor code set, but it does not matter if the can sensor is disconnected or not, also the cam sensor dtc will not reset now. My questions is does the ecu look at cam sense only for injection sequence at start up and ignore it after that? Will a dsm run without a cam sense and just revert back to batch fire for injectors? BTW this all started after a hot soak restart. It had been running perfect before. Any advice is apprciated.

Wtf is a hot soak restart? Anyways if your cam sensor is bad then replace it, end of story. Your car will not run without it. The fuel injection and ignition sequence uses it's signal, so the car will not run at all if it is malfunctioning. They are pretty price from a mitsu dealership new but you can probably find some cheap on ebay or at a junkyard. Hopefully this IS your problem and not something more serious, like skipping some teeth on your timing belt.

A hot soak restart is a term used to describe a restart after a short shutdown after the engine is warm. Like a gas stop. It refers to the heat soaking of the engine when then coolant stops circulating.
