96 talon trunk and lights

so my local junkyard just picked up a talon tsi awd. it's pretty picked over so far but the body seems to be in good shape. so i was going to remove and take the taillight assembly but the trunk isn't open/wont open with the latch on the driver side. how should i go about retrieving these? and what will i need for tools..

any positive input is appreciated. thanks.

Remove the rear hatch cover from the inside, should be some screws that hold the latch, yank it up from the outside no real step by step way to do it, replace the cable it takes some work.

I hope you are smart enough to have someone pushing down or pulling up on the hatch lip while you try the cable by the driver's seat. That is a common problem on some 2G's.

You should also make sure that the cable has not become disconnected from the lever at the driver's seat. If that doesn't work then go climb in the trunk as recommended above.

I hope you are smart enough to have someone pushing down or pulling up on the hatch lip while you try the cable by the driver's seat. That is a common problem on some 2G's.

this ended up working but i had been alone when i visited before. all in vain, someone went through and smashed the taillights before i could get to them today
