I currently own a 96 Talon ESi. When I left for deployment the car was still running and had couple of leaks in the engine. White smoke was also coming out from the exhaust. I purchased the car from a friend of mine who recently PCS. Anyways, I got back from deployment and the car stopped working I'm guessing battery is dead. My question is would it be better if I just have it rebuild or just buy a shortblock instead, and how much would it cost? Any advice would be greatfully appreciated.

Uh....

Yeah, maybe. Or, not.

Dude, Defiant was poking fun at the vaguness of your question.

If you have a 96 ESI, you have the 420a motor. What shortblock engine where you thinking about throwing in there (good luck at fitting a different engine in there w/o a lot of custom fabrication)? And if you have a dead battery, an engine block swap is might be a little excessive... If you think you are burning excessive oil in it you might want to do a compression test to see how well your piston rings are sealing.

thanks very much for the input, well i haven't done a compression test to see how the pistons rings are sealing, coming from a SVT Cobra mustang owner I know little about this car and doing a research on it as much as possible

I plan on putting a turbo on it sometimes in the future, so I might as well get a better piston and rods right or just get a new shortblock(420a with forged internal)?
